dagainstthosepartakinginitTodayauthorierestsictsslyawhilethemajorityofthepopulationresortstotraditionalmediaoutlets.Similarly,criticalinfrastructureonthecon-olessreliantondigitalinterconnecttackscouldbecomemorecommonasdigitalisationproceedsapaceonthecontinent.54hybriddynamicsremainslimited.sblurredthedistinctionbetweencombatantsandciviliansUndertheUSledestrikesoutsideactivewarzoneswerenofenceAttheyintoaconstantthreatforentirecommuareasdesignatedforcounterterrorismoperationsConsideringtheincreasedisconstantifestitselfonaglobalscalehiphasalsoquestionedthenotionofdistanceattachedtoremotewaroliticalconsequenceswithininterveningstatesNotonlyedCrimeheapplicationofdomesticcounterinsurgencymeasuresaimedatregulatingterroristthreats,fwarfareFordroneoperomesaubiquitouscondiionhybridwarfarealsoblursthetandofficiallyacknowlseektomouldthesociopoliticalenvironibleiatethebeginningorendofhostilitiesiesityrRemoteRemotewarfareanddelegationinAfricaipheralMilitaryinterventionsinAfricawerethereforeoftenconsiderederwasanattractiveoptionforpolicingremoteareas.hoicetinenttancetolocalpartnersandincreasinglydronesecurityforcivilianspacingwithseveralEUnuedtoexpandshadunintendedconsequencessuchasincreaseadasalandcovertordeniableinterventioninparticularformilitaryinterventionandtherebycontributestotheescalationofterargumentshowevermaintainthatalowerthresholdcouldalsomeanacasualtyconflictsuchasgenocideTheeithersideoftheargumentremainslargelyanecdotaltodate.thatremotewarfarecanhaveunintendedandcounterproductiveconsequencesonconflictdynamicsInPakistanUStedagainstthecivilianpulationAsextremistgroupsrelocatedgeographicallydronestrikesledtoradicalisafortsinMalihaveattimesdisplacedratherthandismantledjihadibouringcountriesThemultitudeofexteralactorsinvolvedinremoteformsofwarfareandthecombinationoftheirlightfootprintavyandsaturatingeffectsinNigerwithpotentiallydestabilisliferationofintervenwersemployingremotewarfareundoubtedlyimprovesthenegotiatingpositionofwiththewell-establishedprincipal-agentproblemwhenpursuingtheirinterventionsghproxiesincludinghostgovernmentseareexceptionstothisrulenesallowcashstrappedAfricangovernmentsyAprominentexamplewherethisprovedcriticalinerargetcriticscasualtiesofficiallyrecognisedaslinkedtorikesorSpecialForcesoperationsaresignificantlylowerthanaccountscompiledetedbydronesrunsasystematicdatacollectionmechanismandofficialstatisticsonciviliancas-evereeconomiceducationalandmentalhealthimplicationsoftheoptionscasualtieswhileniedbyinrgescalekillingsofciviliansandtheuseofotherinternationallybannedtacssecretiveactivitiesThepossibilityofpublicscrutinyorprosecutionunncreasingtheopportunityfortheabuseoftysituationsininterventioncontextsaswellasconceptualandhodologicalchallengesfurtherhamperthecollectionofreliableandtimelydataonthexecobstructinvestigationintocivilianharmandtolegitimisefutureinterventionsActerveningpowersdonotadmittoenactivelydenyhavingamilitarypresenceatallPlausibleandimplausibledeniabilityhavebeenaparticularhallmarkofrecentinterven-etoconcealtheirowninvolveentsabilitytocountertheassaultsilityassociatedwithrelackoftransparencyandtotheambiguouscommunicationpoliciesassociatedwitharm’slengthintervention.102Suchenvironmentsarevulnerabletodisinformationcampaigns.103Acreditingmultilateralinstitutions,capitalisingonexistinganti-Frenchnarratives,andfur-ringproRussiansentimentthemultipolarity,particularlyinAfricaandtheMiddleEast.eefthetrendtowardsremotewarfareothenegaroadowingtothegrowingmediatisationofwarions
