onallowsthegradualrisetimeoftheoutputvoltagetobedifferentfromthestandardofsixseconds.Toordertheoptionplacethetimedesiredinsecondsafterthesuffixletter,i.e.SS(10denotesa10secondrisetime.5.5ExtraLengthOutputCable--LL(ftStandardoutputcableis10feetofshieldedhighvoltagecable.Otherlengthsmaybespecifiedinmultiplesof10feet.5.6FloatingGround--FGThefloatinggroundoptionallowsisolationofthepowersupplycommonfromthechassisground.TB2locatedontherearpanelprovidesconnectiontothepowersupplycommoncircuitandtothechassisground.Thissignalcanbeusedforavarietyofapplications.AtypicalapplicationforFGisforconnectionofanexternalmeterorcircuitintotheFGsignalpoint.Thiscircuitcanmonitoractualcurrentflowatalowvoltagelevel.SeeFigure5.1fortypicalconnectiontothefloatinggroundterminal.NOTE:Onstandardunits,TB2-1andTB2-2areconnectedtothechassisgroundedinternally.Maximumfloatinggroundvoltageis15V.Typically,thetotalleakagecurrentofthefloatingterminaltothechassisterminalislessthat1μA.Itisimportanttorealizetherearetwoseparatecomponentstothisleakagecurrent.Thefirstcomponentisleakagecurrentcausedbythecouplingofthe60Hzlinemagneticstothepowersupplycircuitry.ThiscomponentcanbemeasuredwhenthepowersupplyisONandintheHIGHVOLTAGEOFFmode.ThesecondcomponentistheleakagecurrentcausedbythecouplingoftheHVDCcircuitstothechassis.ThecomponentcanbemeasuredbyfirstrecordingtheleakagecurrentintheHVOFFmode,andthenrecordingtheleakageatthedesiredHVsetting.ThedifferencebetweenthetwovaluesistheHVDCleakagecurrent.T5.12BipolarMaster/SlaveOption--MSTheBipolarMaster/Slaveoptionallowstwosuppliesofthesamevoltageratingbutoppositepolaritiestofunctionsasasingletrackingbipolarpowersupply.ThepositivesupplyisconfiguredastheMaster,thenegativesupplyisconfiguredastheSlave.ThisisaccomplishedbyconnectingtheVoltageTestPointofthepositive(MasterunittotheVoltageprogrammingofthenegative(Slaveunit.SeeFigure5-8.TheMaster’svoltageprogrammingsignalwillprovidecontrolofbothpowersuppliesfromzerotoratedoutputvoltage.Thenegativepolaritywilltrackthepositivepolaritywithin±1%from10%tofullratedoutput.Performancespecificationsaregovernedbyindividualunitcharacteristics.Thetwounitsmustbeconnectedindependentlytotheirrespectiveloadsandground.5.13ExternalFaultRelayOptionEFRTheexternalfaultrelayoptionprovidesasetofcustomeraccessiblerelaycontactsthatarecontrolledbythefaultstatuscircuitryoftheapplicableSLSeriespowersupply.AstandardSLpowersupplywillreverttothe“powerdown”modewithavisualfrontpanelindicationifanyofthefollowingfaultconditionsoccur:•Overvoltage:Greaterthan110%ofmaximumoutputvoltagewasproducedbythepowersupply.•Overcurrent:Greaterthan104%ofmaximumoutputcurrentwasproducedbythepowersupplyortheAOLcircuitrywasactivated.•Overtemperature:Excessivetemperaturehasbeensensedwithinthechassis.•RegulationError:Lackofrequiredoutputpowertomaintainregulation•Arc(Shutdown:Arcsensingcircuithasshutdownthesupplyduetoexcessivearcing.•Overpower:Thepowersupplyhasexceededtheinternallysetpowerlimitlevel,ifsuchcircuitryisinstalled.WiththeinstallationoftheEFRoptionforTB1,ifanyofthesefaultsoccur,arelaywillbeactivatedtoprovidearemoteindicationthatthepowersupplyhasrevertedtothe“powerdown”mode.Thecommon,normallyopenandnormallyclosedsetofcontactsareprovided.Relaycontactsareratedat1Aat30Vdcor0.5Aat48Vac.ConnectionsontherearpanelTerminalBlock(TB1canbemadeasfollows:TB1-23(J5-12RelayCommonTB1-24(J5-NANormallyClosedTB1-25(J5-13NormallyOpenResettingthefrontpanelandEFRrelayisaccomplishedbydepressingthegreenfrontpanelHVOFFpush-buttonswitch,whichrevertsthepowersupplybacktothe“standby”mode.RemovalandreapplicationoftheAClineinputvoltagewillalsoresetanyfault.ThecircuitryandcomponentsrequiredfortheEFRoptionareinstalledatthefactorywhenthisoptionisordered.5.14CustomDesignedModels-X#UnitsbuilttocustomerspecificationareassignedanXnumberbythefactory.IfthisunitisanXmodel,aspecificationcontrolsheetisaddedattheendofthetestofthisinstructionmanual.Spellmanwelcomestheopportunitytocustomizeunitstofityourrequirementsortodevelopnewproductsforyourapplications.ContacttheSpellmanSalesDepartmentwithyourneeds.Chapter6MAINTENANCEThissectiondescribesperiodicperformancetestingprocedures.servicingand6.2PerformanceTestWARNINGWARNINGHIGHVOLTAGEISDANGEROUS.THISPOWERSUPPLYGENERATESVOLTAGESTHATAREDANGEROUSANDMAYBEFATAL.OBSERVEEXTREMECAUTIONWHENWORKINGWITHHIGHVOLTAGE.ONLYQUALIFIEDPERSONNELSHOULDPERFORMTHESETESTS.6.1PeriodicServicingApproximatelyonceayear(moreofteninhighdustenvironments,disconnectthepowertotheunitandremovethetopcover.Usecompressedairtoblowdustoutoftheinsideoftheunit.Avoidtouchingorhandlingthehighvoltageassembly.Besurethatthefan(600W1200Wunitsonlyisnotobstructedandspinsfreely.Thefanhassealedbearingsanddoesnotneedlubrication.Besuretoreplacethetopcoverbeforeoperatingforpropercooling.HighvoltagetestproceduresaredescribedinBulletinSTP-783,StandardTestProceduresforHighVoltagePowerSupplies.CopiescanbeobtainedfromtheSpellmanCustomerServiceDepartment.Testequipment,includinganoscilloscope,ahighimpedancevoltmeter,andahighvoltagedividersuchastheSpellmanHVD100orHVD-200,isneededfor
