ontheplanetwillbenettedtogether.Asaresult,Inowbelievethedigitaldividewillnarrowratherthanwidenintheyearsahead.Andthatisverygoodnewsbecause asocialandculturaldisconnectbetweenjournalists and theirreaders,whichhelpsexplainwhythe“standardtemplates"ofthenewsroomseemalientomanyreaders.Inarecentsurvey,questionnairesweresenttoreportersinfive middle-size citiesaroundthecountry,plus one largemetropolitanarea. Thenresidentsinthesecommunitieswerephoned at
