A punishing three-week Isreaeli assault on Gaza aimed at stopping militant rocket fire on Israel ended with separate ceasefires in January. On Thursday, Hamas officials said they expected a truce with Israel to be announced within days.News2There were fierce battles in Gaza on Friday as Hamas and Israel both rejected a United Nations call for an immediate ceasefire.
