Unit 8 When is your birthday?Section A心远中学 王新玲教材分析This is the first part in this unit. The topic of this lesson is talking about month and festivals. This part focuses on talking about ones birthday. And it aims at making students say out its birthday date.教学目标【知识目标】Key vocabulary: January February March Key structures: A:when is your birthdayB:My birthday is on. 【能力目标】To master the name of the 12 months【情感目标】Learn to talk about ones birthday date.教学重难点【教学重点】Learn the key words.Learn the structure of the ordinal numeral .【教学难点】Learn to ask and answer birth date during conversations.课前准备Tape recorder, Multimedia教学过程Step 1. Warm-up 1. Do you know themTeacher show pictures of festivals and ask students which month is this festival in, then show the word of month on the screen.2. Teacher summarize the 12 months in a year and ask students to read after her/him.3.Teacher show pictures and ask students to read out the words.【设计意图】用学生熟知的节日引出月份,导入自然。Step 2. Listening1. Ask students to look at1a, listen and repeat after the tape, then teacher invite volunteers to read these words.2. Ask students to look at 1b, listen and number the conversations1-3A: When is your birthday, Linda?B: My birthday is on October 2nd.A: When is your birthday, Mary ?B: Its on January 5th.A: When is your birthday, Mike ?B: My birthday is on June 3rd.3. Teacher divide students into groups of two and ask them practice these conversations above then make their own.When is your birthday?My birthday is on October 10th.4. Teacher show students pictures of each month and give corresponding numbers: first, second, third, fourth, fifth.Then teacher show the rules of changing numbers into ordinal numeral.5. Pair work1. Teacher ask students to form groups of two and make conversations like:A:When is your birthday?B:My birthday is / It is 2. Teacher show pictures of different people and ask students to make conversations with their desk mates.A: When is his birthday?B: His birthday/It is on October tenth.3. Free talk, teacher show students the topic and give them 3 minutes to talk freely:When is your fathers birthday?His birthday is onWhen is your mothers birthday?Her birthday is onWhen is your friends birthday?Her/ His birthday is on【设计意图】小组合作极大的带动学生的积极性,培养学生的合作精神和能力。此处对话的话题是本部分的中心话题生日是什么时候,让学生巩固前面所学并将其运用到真实语境中。Step 4. Grammar1. Teacher ask students look at the sentences in grammar focus. And ask students to read these sentences then translate them.2. Teacher give students five minutes, during this time they have to finish the exercise in 3a and 3b.A: How are you, Grace?B: twelve.A: And is your birthday?B: My is on March 12th. How about you and Tom?A: Well, my birthday is July 5th, and Toms birthday is December.3. Teacher divide students into groups of six and ask them to find out each persons birthday and line up from the youngest to the oldest.【设计意图】语法相对来说是英语学习过程中较难的一部分,所以讲语法的学习放在课程后半部分并设计相应的练习能让学生学习了更轻松掌握起来更快。Step5. Language points1.Teacher explain some important language points to students When is Liu Pings birthday? 刘萍的生日是什么时候? Her birthday is on September 5th. 她的生日是九月五日。 1) when做疑问副词时, 意为“什么时候; 何时”, 常用于对日期和时刻进行提问。e.g. When is the party? 晚会是什么时候?2) 名词后加“ s” 表示所有, 意为“的”。e.g. This
