2010 Central Green Area (Pudong) Ecological Vertical Green Screen The Mobilane Green Screen is a living fence, consisting of a 5mm weld mesh galvanised steel security fence covered with plants. The plants are grown in a biodegradable pot, which is fitted at the bottom of the metal fence. Once the Green Screen is installed the pot will degrade completely in the soil. The Green Screen is available in different sizes and with various types of plants, including Ivy, Beech and Hornbeam and can be cut to fit by using a bolt cutter. Products The Green Screens are grown by several professional nurseries, which are all certified by QualiTree. This is an integrated quality system for nursery stock companies, guaranteeing a high standard quality assured management system which in turn assures product quality and environmental care standards. The Green Screen is available with the following plants: Product information Technology Shanghai EXPO 2010 Central Green Area (Pudong) Ecological Vertical Green Screen - Security for children and pets - Low maintenance with a 10 year guarantee Ground & Playground Buildings and Cladding - Instant covering which improves with time - 10 year guarantee Office & Parking - Environmentally sound alternative to traditional types of fencing - Cost effective compared to brick walls Technology Shanghai EXPO 2010 Central Green Area (Pudong) Ecological Vertical Green Screen - Provides privacy and security - Maximizes the use of the space Planted & Established Graffiti Prevention & Highways - Environmentally sound solution to persistent vandalism and graffiti. - Extensions to a height of 2.8 height of 2.8m are available. Roof garden & Hardstanding - Instant security, safety and privacy - Hardwood planter box Technology Shanghai EXPO 2010 Central Green Area (Pudong) Nature-friendly Wood-chip Pavement 1.Safely decomposes and returns to soil, without having negative impact on the environment. 2.Excellent water-retaining capacity, helps heat-evaporation effect last longer. 3.“ Softness” is safer for walkers even if they fall. 4.Degree of hardness designed to be easy to walk on. 5.Degree of hardness designed to be easy for wheelchair use. Technology Shanghai EXPO 2010 Central Green Area (Pudong) Nature-friendly Wood-chip Pavement Hard Base: The hard base needed for the World Expo are partly paved with wood chips having been compressed under super-heated high-pressure steam at 182 C for 30 minutes, a process that alters the crystal lattice structure of the fibrin in wood chips to make them permanently deformed (Shape Memory Effect). As they are chemical-free natural materials, the wood chips will cause no burden to the natural environment after decomposition. After the World Expo, we could decompose the chips and lay soil for planting so as to avoid excavation provided hard-base paving had been adopted. The proposal is to take our departure from a playing-field construction. These fields are designed to withstand intensive use. To achieve this there are three criteria: 1. The grass-seed mixture 2. The base should be very permeable to water 3. The sprinkle system should be controlled Toleranted of Heavy Used Grass Shanghai EXPO 2010 Central Green Area (Pudong) Technology Technology Shanghai EXPO 2010 Central Green Area (Pudong) Technology Shanghai EXPO 2010 Central Green Area (Pudong) Technology Shanghai EXPO 2010 Central Green Area (Pudong) Easy installation, rope can be tensioned by hand,no machines or special tools needed. Discreet visual appearance. This fixation takes care of the tree and bark;lower surface pressure. Damping of shocks. Danger of biting is eliminated. Grows automatically with incresing tree diameter without reduceing the carrying capacity. Environmental compatible and recyclable. Easy to maintain. Not in this old way This is the better solution Technology Shanghai EXPO 2010 Central Green Area (Pudong) 1.Water WATER ASPECTS OF THE CENTRAL GREEN AREA HELOPHYTE FILTER Technology Shanghai EXPO 2010 Central Green Area (Pudong) The watercleaning system is: 1. Informative for visitors 2. Special designed element 3. Showing the cleaning of water by plants WATERSYSTEM Technology Shanghai EXPO 2010 Central Green Area (Pudong) Water area technology Technology Shanghai EXPO 2010 Central Green Area (Pudong) Water area technology Technology Shanghai EXPO 2010 Central Green Area (Pudong) Technology Shanghai EXPO 2010 Central Green Area (Pudong) It is not necessary to setting too many constructions in the green area after Expo.So all the construction could be changed to sculptures where people can take a rest there. After the Expo, all these constructions which we kept will be a nice scene of this green area. - The Green City concept brings everyday life back in contact with nature. - Green in cities is good for aesthetics, ecology and economy. - A city with more trees and green can help solve many of our environmental problems including poor air quality, noise pollution, the urban heat island effect and water management. - Trees can reduce the amount of energy needed in buildings and therefore require less energy to run power plants. - Green makes people feel good and live healthier lifestyles. GREEN CITY CONCEPT Shanghai EXPO 2010 Central Green Area (Pudong) Technology The influence of trees on the dust concentration in the air - Trees intercept atmospheric particles by up to 25% and absorb gaseous pollutants; - Leaves and soil absorb fine dust and gaseous pollutants; - Leaf surfaces catch fine dust and gaseous pollutants; - Plants deposit fine dust on the downwind side by slowing the air movement. GREEN CITY: the positive effect of green on AIR POLLUTION, TEMPERATURE, NOISE Shanghai EXPO 2010 Central Green Area (Pudong) Technology Distance 1st filtration 2nd filtration 3rd filtration % 100 0 with Plantation without Plantation - Green and trees absorb CO2 from the air and release O2 for breathing; - Green creates air that is more humid so less gas escapes; - Green and trees influence the amount of NO3 and O3 in the air, therefore diminishing greenhouse gasses. GREEN CITY: the positive effect of green on AIR POLLUTION, TEMPERATURE, NOISE Shanghai EXPO 2010 Central Green Area (Pudong) Technology The effect of the size of trees on pollution removal - Certain tree species have a better capacity to improve air quality than others (some trees catch the dust on their leaves and it falls, others absorb the fine dust and transport it to the soil where it is used by micro-organisms); - The larger the tree, the more pollution it removes from the air; - Evergreen trees catch less fine dust but are still helpful because they do this all year round. GREEN CITY: the positive effect of green on AIR POLLUTION, TEMPERATURE, NOISE Shanghai EXPO 2010 Central Green Area (Pudong) Technology - Green and trees moderate the city temperature; - Urban heat islands can be reduced by up to 5 degrees C by planting trees and covering soils with green; - Green buffers incoming sunbeams, lowers temperatures and lifts up humidity in summer and can control wind chill and energy loss in winter; - Houses with strategically placed green outside can save 10% on energy costs. GREEN CITY: the positive effect of green on AIR POLLUTION, TEMPERATURE, NOISE Shanghai EXPO 2010 Central Green Area (Pudong) Technology GREEN CITY: the positive effect of green on AIR POLLUTION, TEMPERATURE, NOISE - Trees that change wind patterns not only provide cooling and transport of dust and gas, but also reduce noise - Trees absorb and refract or dissipate noise - Open green structures optimise the diminishment of turbulence (turbulence brings sound to undesired places) Shanghai EXPO 2010 Central Green Area (Pudong) Technology - Green absorbs and bends air pollution and noise away; - Green creates a better microclimate for both the motorway and the surrounding area. THE BENEFIT OF GREEN ALONG MOTORWAYS GREEN CITY: the positive effect of green on AIR POLLUTION, TEMPERATURE, NOISE Shanghai EXPO 2010 Central Green Area (Pudong) Technology Ecological Effects of Green: the Integral Plantation modification of wind flow INDUSTRIAL AREA HIGHWAY / ROAD RESIDENTIAL AREA / OFFICE AREA removal of atmospheric pollution noise absorbing screen / wall energy savings 10% at least accumulation dust + gasses CO2- storage neutralization of turbulence = +10 dB improvement of indoor climate GREEN CITY: the positive effect of green on AIR POLLUTION, TEMPERATURE, NOISE Shanghai EXPO 2010 Central Green Area (Pudong) Technology Principle 3: Increasing velocity as result of uplifted wind Principle 2: Increasing velocity as result of escaping wind Principle 1: Increasing velocity as result of tunnelling * = wind turbine with horizontal or vertical axis * * * * * * - Wind circulation can be increased by planting belts that create tunnelling, escaping wind and uplifted wind and using wind turbines with horizontal or vertical axes GREEN CITY the effect of green on TEMPERATURE and WIND Shanghai EXPO 2010 Central Green Area (Pudong) Technology Core Themes of the Green City Concept - Use a good assort- ment of plants, make sure the knowledge of the plants is there; - The right tree in the right place - Use heavy plant material: 30-35cm diameter trees at least; - Make sure there is enough green to look at and to recreate in - Water and green together are important - Not just water but quality water - Green sells- green is valuable, but you have to make true on the green promises GREEN CITY the importance of making good choices Shanghai EXPO 2010 Central Green Area (Pudong) Technology Temperature and microclimate - green and trees moderate the temperature - temperature stays lower through evaporation - control wind chill and energy loss - roof gardens can decrease the temperature of a whole city if there are enough of them - urban heat island-planting trees and covering soils with green reduces city temperature with 5 degrees Celsius - trees and branches lift wind and create shelter from wind in winter - Green and trees can reduce energy use in buildings by shading buildings, altering air flows and lowering air temperatures through transpiration; - Roof gardens regulate temperatures inside buildings; - Roof gardens can decrease the temperature of a whole city if there are enough of them GREEN CITY: the positive effect of green roofs on TEMPERATURE Shanghai EXPO 2010 Central Green Area (Pudong) Technology - Indoor air quality can be improved with the presence of plants; - Studies show that the presence of plants increases employee work performance by 12%, increases productivity and reduces stress. GREEN CITY: the positive effect of green on INDOOR AIR QUALITY Shanghai EXPO 2010 Central Green Area (Pudong) Technology - Ventilation is increased in a building by planting trees outside the building (pre-filtering and temperature reduction) and inside the building (in open areas, hallways and individual rooms; - Leaves release transpiration which provides humidity in the air; - Indoor plants reduce dust in a room by 20%, and absorb benzol, nicotine and other volatile gasses. Air pollution is absorbed by the leaves of the plant Dispensing of
