For 30 years, these women feasted, forgot past wrongs, laughed and played, lost and won and told the best stories. Each week they hoped to be lucky and that hope was their only joy. Jewish mah-jong. Not the same thing. Entirely different. I wish you werent my mom! Mother:Too late to change this. Voice over: Throughout years, June failed her mothers expectations so many times. She didnt get straight As. She didnt become class president. She didnt get into Stanford. At first, it felt wonderful to see her tyrant mothers dreams on her broke one by one. However, a strong sense of disappointment in herself has eaten every bit of her. The reckless and stupid resistance against her mother made she nothing more than ordinary. She finally get to understand her mother and her unconditional love for her. Mom: Its your birthday again. You can pick it up as long as you want to. Remember how good you were, as Mr.Chong told me? June: No. I am not so great as you think. I failed. Not only piano, but everything. I am sorry, I am not a model daughter. Mom:(A little angry) You are, you just didnt try! I know in your heart, you wanted to become good, famous person. You just gave up when there was a obstacle in your way. You gave in so easily. Tell me, are you happy about who you are now? (Mom sighs deeply) But, I have already lost someone, I cannot risk losing you. I ask for no more but you to be happy.(Mom wipes her tears) Come, take it. Junes soliloquy :She passed away.
