摘要 语言具有模糊性。语言的模糊性可以表现为许多词语所指称的客 观概念在客观世界中没有明确的外延，概念与概念之间没有明确的分 界线。语言的这种模糊性有助于修正、限制概念，避免把话说得太死， 使语言表达灵活，有回旋的余地。自从l a k o f f 在1 9 7 2 年把m o s t l y ， a l m o s t ，a p p e a r 等词语定义为模糊限制语之后，近二十年来，对模糊 限制语的研究层出不穷，许多学者对模糊限制语做了不同角度的研 究。但以往的研究多集中在对模糊限制语的定义、分类及功能上，而 对学术论文中模糊限制语的研究相对甚少，尤其是对英汉论文中模糊 限制语的对比研究更为少见。学术论文中的模糊限制语具有特定的交 际目的和交际对象，并在文体风格、社会功能等方面都具有特征性。 本文以六种权威应用语言学期刊上的六十篇实证性论文( 英汉 各三十篇) 作为研究对象，以v a r t t a l a 和h y l a n d 对模糊限制语的分 类理论为基础，将模糊限制语分为五类：具有认识力的情态动词、动 词、副词、形容词、名词。对英汉论文中模糊限制语的出现频次和分 布特点( 包括在引言、方法、结果和讨论四个部分的分布) 进行对比 分析。 研究结果表明：模糊限制语在英汉论文中出现频次和分布特点 存在着相同和不同之处。主要表现在以下两个方面： 在出现频次方面：总的来说，模糊限制语在英语论文中的出现 频次要远远高于其在汉语论文中的出现频次。英汉论文样本对模糊限 i 制语的使用上存在着较明显的差异。具体来讲，相对于其它四类词而 言，英汉论文作者都较少使用具有认识力的名词。在英语论文中出现 频次较高的三类词是：具有认识力的动词、形容词及情态动词；而在 汉语论文中出现频次较高的词是具有认识力的副词。 在分布特征方面：英汉论文都是讨论部分的模糊限制语最多， 方法部分最少。但无论是就整体上来讲还是就各部分来讲，模糊限制 语在英语论文中的分布要明显比其在汉语论文中的分布广。这种差异 在结果部分最为明显。 英汉论文在模糊限制语使用上的不同之处较清晰地反映出了英 汉作者不同的写作习惯。文化习俗以及对学术论文写作规约的不了解 都会影响对模糊限制语的使用。本研究对学术写作与教学有着重要的
