The aim of this period is to help students learn some new words; do the listening practice; practice the conversations orally, using the past forms; make some conversations with the information given. And the main demand of this period is how to get students to use the past forms freely in the conversations.Teaching approachesIn order to help students understand the listening text, make conversations in the past tense correctly, individual performance, pair work, group work are to be arranged for students to participate. The main teaching approaches of this period are task-based approach and student-centered communicative approach. Key point and difficultyHow to get students to take part in the activities and express themselves in English.Teaching proceduresStep . Goals and tasks are first presented1.The goal: Talk about the past events in the past forms freely.2.Main tasks: a. Learn some new wordsb. Do the listening practicec. Master the target structured. Make conversations, using the past forms, with the word, picture, video informationStep . Revision work1. Show the students the report of what the kids did last weekend and ask the students to read the report. The purpose of doing this exercise is to get students to pay more attention to the past forms of the verbs in the report. At the same time, it is a good opportunity for the students to remember the past form of the verbs.2. Do a fill-in-blanks exercise to check if students can use the past forms freely.Step . Present in Look at the pictures in Activity 1a, and learn to say the place and the activities in the past tense. Learn the new words in it. It is best to get students to talk about the pictures in English. If they can say, the teacher can try to get them to say something about the pictures with some help of Chinese explanation.Step . Talk about the past eventsIf we want to talk about a past event, we would use the past form of the verb. It is different from Chinese. In questions we use did before the general verbs. So many students often make mistakes in their English. So individual, pair, group work are the most steps of practice.Step . Grammar focus The past tense is an important tense in English and for us Chinese students, especially for the new learners, it is very difficult to use them correctly, especially orally. So the students must keep the forms of the verbs in mind. For the past tense, there are no differences for single subject or plural
