Periods 12 Warming up,Pre-reading,Reading,Post-reading Teaching Goals:1To learn some basic knowledge about inventions in the 20th century which have changed our modem life so much 2To get Ss to grasp the main idea of the passage and help them to understand the passage better3To help Ss to learn to be more creative4To learn some useful words and expressionsTeaching Procedures:Step 1Warming up 1Lead-in(Class work): Show pictures of Four Great Inventions of ancient ChinaGet Ss to talk of the Four Great Inventions of ancient China and ask some of them to call them out with the correct names China has a history of 5000 yearsIn history,Four Great Inventions stand out in the hall of glory, which we are most proud ofThey are the compass, paper, printing and gun-powderIt shows that China led the world for centuries in science and technology in ancient times2.Brainstorming: Let Ss tell of the pictures of inventions in the 20th century and let them list what inventions they can think ofwhich are invented in the last century In the first twenty years: In the 1920s: In the 1930s: In the 1940s and 50s: From 1960s to 80s: In the last ten years of the century:3Group work: Get Ss to discuss the following questions and ask them to present it before classQ1:What are the functions of the inventions?Q2:Are there any disadvantages of these inventions?
