Since2022,Fujitsuhassurveyedbusinessleadersaroundtheworld,assessingtheirSustainability

Transformation(SX)initiatives.Oursurvey1in

NovemberandDecember2023revealedthatover

half(53%)ofbusinessleadersareactivelyreviewingtheseactivities.

Inparticular,thebusinessenvironmentischangingrapidlyduetoadvancesinAI.InJanuary2024,

Fujitsusurveyed800CxOsacross15countriestounderstandhowtheirorganizationsarenowusingAIandhowtechnologiessuchasAIaresupportingtheirSXactivities.

EconomicstoconductasurveyonthebusinessimpactofrapidAIadoption,thestatusof

SustainabilityTransformation,andhowthistransformationcanbedrivenbyAIandotherdigitaltechnologies.

FujitsuandOxfordEconomicsconductedanon-

linesurveyof800businessleaders(CxOs)across14industriesin15countries.InterviewswerealsoconductedwithCxOsat12organizationsthatareimplementingSustainabilityTransformation

strategies.TheinterviewslookedatthestatusofAIimplementation,andtheSustainability

Transformationoutcomesbeingachievedusingdigitaltechnology.

Accordingtooursurvey,manyrespondentsexpectAItodramaticallychangebusinessandsocietyandarethereforeupscalingtheirAIinitiatives.They

predictAIwillbeintegratedintoeverypartoftheirbusinesswithinthenextthreeyears.

Respondentsalsorecognizedthatinthefuture,therapidadoptionofAIwillrequireemployeesto

developnewskills.However,theyholdmixed

viewsonthepossibleimplicationsthatAIcould

haveonemploymentandoverallheadcountlevels.

Atthesametime,manyrespondentsbelievethatincreasingAIusagewillsupporttheirSustainabilityTransformationplans.Infact,organizationsthat

havesuccessfullydeliveredfinancialandnon-financialoutcomesthroughtheirSustainabilityTransformationhavetypicallyincreasedtheir

investmentinAIandareactivelyusingAIacrosstheirorganizations.

ThesesurveyresultsareconsistentwithFujitsu’sbeliefthatgreateruseofAIandotherdigital

technologieswillenablesuccessfulSustainabilityTransformation.

Oursurveyclearlyrevealsthat,inadditionto

BusinessleadersrecognizetheimportanceofrespondingtoAIandsustainabilitychallenges.

Indeed,morethanhalfofbusinessleaders

surveyedbelievethattheirresponsetotherapid

advanceofAIwilldeterminethefutureoftheir

businesses.TheybelievethatorganizationsthatfailtouseAIanddataeffectivelywilllosecompetitiveedgeand,asaresult,marketshare.

Atthesametime,morethanhalfofbusinessleadersnowbelieveit’simportanttoachievebusinessgrowthwhilecontributingto

environmentalandsocialsustainability.

OrganizationsarenowtryingtoincorporateAIinallaspectsoftheirbusinessasweenterthefull-scaleadoptionphase.

ThechartonthenextpageshowsthecurrentuseofAIinorganizationsandtheoutlookforitsfutureuse.

Currently,AIisusedpredominantlyforimproving

efficiencyinbusinesssupport,automationofcustomerserviceandhandlingofroutinetasks.However,overthenextthreeyears,around80%oforganizationsaimtouseAIforcomplexdecision-making,includingthe

enhancementofproductandservicefunctionsand

managementdecisionsupport,bothpreviouslydifficulttoachievewithAI.

Oursurveyresultssuggestthat,overthenextthreeyears,

AIwillpermeatealmosteveryaspectofbusiness,enablingradicaltransformation.

BusinessleaderswillneedtoexamineandimplementstrategiesforusingAItoaddressthisdrasticchange.
