WangservesasheadoftheArchitectureDepartmentattheChina

园)oftheuniversityinHangzhou,ZhejiangProvince.Manybuildingson
thecampusarehisoriginalcreations.
ThestyleofthecampusisquitedifferentfromthatofmostChinese
universities.Manyvisitorswereamazedbythecomplexarchitectural
spaceandabundantbuildingtypes.Thecurves(曲线)ofthebuildings
perfectlymatchtheriseandfallofhills,formingauniqueview.
Wangcollectedmorethan7millionabandonedbricksofdifferent
ages.Heaskedtheworkerstousetraditionaltechniquestomakethe
bricksintowalls,roofsandcorridors.Thiscreationattractedalotof
attentionthankstoitsmixtureofmodernandtraditionalChinese
elements(元素).
Wang'sworksshowadeepunderstandingofmodernarchitecture
andagoodknowledgeoftraditions.Throughsuchabalance,hehad
createdanewtypeofChinesearchitecture,saidTadaoAndo,thewinner
ofthe1995PritzkerPrize.
Wangbelievestraditionsshouldnotbesealedinglassboxesat
museums."Thatisonlyevidencethattraditionsonceexisted,"hesaid.
"ManyChinesepeoplehaveamisunderstandingoftraditions.They
thinktraditionmeansoldthingsfromthepast.Infact,traditionalsorefers
tothethingsthathavebeendevelopingandthatarestillbeingcreated,"
hesaid.
"Today,manyChinesepeoplearelearningWesternstylesand
theoriesratherthanfocusingonChinesetraditions.Manypeopletendto
talkabouttraditionswithoutknowingwhattheyreallyare,"saidWang.
Thestudyoftraditionsshouldbecombinedwithpractice.Otherwise,

Whilethedeclineoverthepastdecadeissteepforteenreaders,some
datainthereportshowsthatreadingremainsabigpartofmany

saythey'hardlyever5readforfunhasgonefrom8percentof
13-year-oldsand9percentof17-year-oldsin1984to22percentand27

Thereportdatashowsthatpleasurereadinglevelsforyounger
children,ages2-8,remainlargelythesame.Buttheamountoftimespent
inreadingeachsessionhaddeclined,fromclosertoanhourormoreto
closertoahalfhourpersession.
Whenitcomestotechnologyandreading,thereportdoeslittleto
counsel(建议)parentslookingfordataabouttheeffectofe-readersand
tabletsonreading.Itdoespointoutthatmanyparentsstilllimitelectronic
readingmainlyduetoconcernsaboutincreasedscreentime.

Languageshavebeencomingandgoingforthousandsofyears,but
inrecenttimestherehasbeenlesscomingandalotmoregoing.When
thetheworldwasstillpopulatedbyhunter-gatherers,small,tightlyknit
(联系)groupsdevelopedtheirownpatternsofspeechindependentofeach
other.Somelanguageexpertsbelievethat10,000yearsago,whenthe

Afteryearsofheateddebate,graywolveswerereintroducedto
YellowstoneNationalPark.FourteenwolveswerecaughtinCanadaand
transportedtothepark.Bylastyear,theYellowstonewolfpopulationhad

Asearlyas1966,biologistsaskedthegovernmenttoconsider
reintroducingwolvestoYellowstonePark.Theyhopedthatwolveswould
beabletocontroltheelkandcoyoteproblems.Manyfarmersopposedthe
