Aftercarefullystudyingdifferentkindsofgympiegympietrees,thescientistswereabletoseparateoutdifferentchemicalsthatthetreesproduce.Thisallowedthemtoidentify(识别)groupofchemicalsthattheybelievedwereresponsibleforthepain.Theresearcherscreatedartificialversionsofthesechemicals,whichtheycall"gympietides".Sureenough,whenthescientistsshotmicewithgympietides,themicelickedattheplaceswherethey'dbeenshotindicatingthattheyhurtinthoseplaces.

Whenthescientistsstudiedthewaygympietideswerebuilt,theyfoundthattheyformedknotlike(结状的)shpe.Theshapemakesthechemicalverystable.Theknotlikeshapeofthegympietideswassimilartotheshapeoftoxinsproducedbypoisonousspidersandconesnails.Thescientistsweresurprisedtoseethreeverydifferentkindsoflifeallusingsimilartoxins.While
