whoscoredthelowestinthesecognitivetasksalwaysoverestimatedhowwelltheydid—byalot.Studentswhoscoredin
thebottomestimatedthattheyhadperformedbetterthantwo-thirdsoftheotherstudents!
Sure,it*stypicalforpeopletooverestimatetheirabilities.Theproblemisthatwhenpeopleareincompetent,not
onlydotheyreachwrongconclusionsandmakeunfortunatechoices,butalsotheyarerobbedoftheabilitytorealize
theirmistakes.Inasemester-longstudyofcollegestudents,goodstudentscouldbetterpredicttheirperformanceon
