2.CourseDescription

"EnglishVideo2"isabasicrequiredcourseforfreshmennon-Englishmajorstudents.Throughdirectinstruction,videos,lecture,modeling,pair,andgroupworkactivities,studentswillbegivenanencouraging,relaxed,andenjoyableatmospherewithinwhichtopracticetheirlisteningandspokenskillsanddevelopconfidenceinunderstandingandspeakingEnglishatabasiclevel.

Thecourseaimstocultivateandimprovestudents'listeningcomprehension,verbalskills,andtheabilitytoengageincross-culturalcommunicationsothatstudentscanuseEnglisheffectivelyfortheexchangeofinformationintheirfutureworkandsocialinteraction,whileincreasingtheirself-learningabilityandculturalqualities,andlayasolidfoundationforfuturesustainabledevelopment.

3.CurriculumObjectives:

TobolsterstudentconfidenceinspeakingEnglish;aboveall,toencouragestudentstobelieveinthemselves,theirabilities,andfindthecouragetoactuallycommunicateusingspokenEnglish.ToincreasestudentauralcomprehensionofEnglishthroughvariousformsofmediaaswellasface-to-faceinteraction.

1.Knowledgeandskillsobjectives:

StudentswillbeabletounderstandconversationsandlecturesinEnglish,familiarthemes,andlengthyEnglishradioandtelevisionprogramsataspeedof150-180wordsperminute,graspingthecentraleffect,andseizingthekeypointsandrelevantdetails.StudentswillbeabletospeakEnglishfluentlyongeneraltopics;expresspersonalopinions,emotions,andviewpoints;makebasicstatementsoffactorreason;anddescribeevents.Students’expressionoffluency,pronunciationandintonationwillbebasicallycorrectandtheywilluseeffectiveconversationalstrategiesinconversation.

2.Processandmethodobjectives:

Tomeettheneedsofstudentsatdifferentlevels,acombinationofwatchingvideos,personalizedEnglishteaching,studentindependentlearningandteacherinputwillbeimplemented.Studentswilllearncommunicativeskillsthroughavarietyofscenarios,repetitiouslistening,speakingpractice,andwrittenmaterial.Studentswillbeinvolvedindiscussions,lessonsandextra-curricularactivitiessothattheyhaveachancetopracticeandexchangelearningexperiences.

3.Emotional,attitudinalandvalues-developmentobjectives:

Thecourseisdesignedtoimprovetheoverallqualityofstudentstowardsinternationaltalents.Studentsareexpectedtotakeanactiveroleandbeadvocatesintheirownlearningusingtheirinterests,lifeexperiencesandcognitivelevels.Throughpractice,participation,cooperationandexchanges,studentswilldeveloptheabilitytouseEnglishcomprehensively.Acooperativelearningapproachallowsstudentstouseteamwork;independentlearningthroughextra-curricularactivitiesdevelopsstudents'self-planning,self-direction,self-regulationandself-control.

Studentsaresecondsemesterfreshmennon-Englishmajorstudentsandhavemoderate-levelEnglishskills.ThiscoursewillfocusondevelopinglisteningandspokenEnglishskillsbycreatingasupportivelearningenvironmentwithplentifulopportunitiesforpractice,andinstillconfidenceintheseskillstoenablethemtosuccessfullycontinuetheirEnglisheducationwhileatDGUT.

七、教学方法7.Teachingmethods:

Methodsrangefromsmalltask-basedteachingtolargegrouplectures.Specificteachingmethodsincludelecture(Socratic);interactive/responsive;extensivemodeling;directedself-learning;individual,pair,andgrouplearning;watchinganddiscussingvideos;debate;andexplanation.Allowingthestudentstosolvespecifictaskswillimprovetheirabilitiesofautonomousself-learningandproblemsolvingandwillalsocultivateindependentthinking,thespiritofcooperationandthespiritofinnovation.

8.Learningneedsofstudents

1.Methodofthiscourse,strategiesandeducationalresources

Methodisfocusedonwatchingvideos,completingtextbookexercises,classroominteractionandspokenactivitiesbetweenteacherandstudent,amongpairs,andwithinsmallgroups.

2.Requiredextra-curricularreadingandeducationalmaterials

Textbookreadingandreview,aswellaswatchingassignedvideos,isrequiredasappropriate.AsavideoEnglishcourse,theemphasisisonclassroomwatching,listeningandspeakingincombinationwithdailystudypractice.Studentsshouldideallystudy/reviewvocabularyandpracticepronunciationfor30-60minutes/day.

ReadingEnglish-languagenewspapers,magazinesandbooks,andwatchingEnglishfilmclassics,popularmoviesandtelevisionshowsfromAnglo-Americancountriesarehighlyrecommended.

3.Weeklystudytimerequirement.

Inordertomasterthecontentsofthiscourse,studentsshouldspendabout6hoursaweek,includingclasstime,completinghomeworkassignments,reviewingtextbookandvideomaterial,learningvocabulary,practicingpronunciationandparticipatinginextra-curricularactivities.

4.Requiredclass,laboratory,discussion,Q&A,homework(orthesis),unittests,finalexams,etc.,workrequirementsforstudents.

Attendanceismandatoryforthisclass,asisvocalparticipationinclassdiscussions,spokenactivities,andpartnerandgroupactivities.Participationinindividualandsmall-groupspokenfinalexamsisrequired,asisindividualpronunciationandvocabularystudy/practicebothinsideandoutsidetheclassroom.Studentsareexpectedtocompleteallvideoandwrittenhomeworkassignmentsandself-studyassignments.Classtimewillaccountfortwohourseachweek.Studentsshouldexpecttospendaboutfourhourseachweekonhomeworkandself-study.Ifstudentsadequatelycompletethein-class,homeworkandself-studyassignmentsandreceiveapassingscoreontheoralandlisteningexams,theywillreceive2creditsfortheclass.

5.Studentparticipationinteachingevaluationrequirements.

AsdirectedbytheFLD,Iwillencouragestudentstocompleteonlineevaluationofthecourseandmyteachingmethod.Ialsosolicitfeedbackfromstudentsthroughanymeansofcontactattheendofeachclass,andfurtherencouragethisthroughstudentofficehoursifrequested.
