Anotherrecentstudyidentifiedaconsiderablegendergapwhenitcomestoself-promotion,with

womenprovidinglessfavorableassessmentsoftheirownpastperformanceandpotentialfuture

ability.Ultimately,mentakemorechancesonthemselves,andthatpaysdividends(红利)inthe

longrun.

Whilethispatternofself-doubtemergedagainandagaininstudies,myinteractions,andmy

clientwork,Ialsonoticedanothercommonality:Thesewomen'sself-doubtsweren'tsabotaging

theirsuccess.ThevastmajorityofsuccessfulwomenleadersI'veinterviewedandcoachedhave

builtexcitingandsatisfyingcareersevenwhilefacingself-doubt.

Whatthesewomenalsohadincommoniscourageintheabsenceofconfidence—atraitthatis

oftenweaponizedagainstwomenandusedtoexplainwhytheyfailtoachievecareergoals.My

workhasfoundthatsuccessfulwomentakedecisiveactiontomoveforwardevenwhilegrappling

withfearsanddoubtsandquestioningtheirown“readiness”.
