GreatExpectationswasthepenultimatenovelpletedbythemostpopularnovelistofVictorianEngland,CharlesDickens.BorninKent,England,in1812toafamilyofmodestmeansbutgreatpretensions,Dickenssearlylifewasmarkedbybothhumiliationandambition.Dickensneverforgottheperiodoffinancialcrisisduringhischildhood,whenfollowinghisfathersbankruptcy,hewastakenoutofschoolandforcedtoworkinashoepolishwarehouse.

Pipmeetsanescapedconvict,Magwitch,andgiveshimfood,inanencounterthatistohauntboththeirlives.

Amongthecharacters,whichimpressedmemostarenotPipandEstellawhoshouldberegardedastheleadingroles,butJoeandMagwitch.IfeelawfullysorrythatIwasnotbraveenoughtoreadtheoriginaleditionthatisasthickasabrick.Otherwise,ImayappreciateJoeandMagwitchmore.Yes,theyarenotthemaincharactersinthenovel.However,whattheysaidandwhattheydiddeeplytouchedme.Itsinteresting,isntit?Theyarequitetheoppositeguys.Oneisatotallygoodmanwithouttheleastbitofwickednesswhiletheotherisaprisonerwhoisbelievedtohavemittedeveryevil.
