Helloeveryone,todayI’mgoingtointroducetheteachingplanofUnit4Thenandnowforthefirsttermofthe2022-2023academicyear.Themainobjectiveofthisunitistofamiliarizestudentswiththeconceptofcomparingandcontrastingthingsthathavechangedovertime,aswellasexpandingtheirvocabularyandimprovingtheiroralandwrittenskills.
2.LearningObjectives
Bytheendoftheunit,studentsshouldbeableto:
Describechangesthathaveoccurredintechnology,clothing,transportationandcustomsovertime.
Usecomparativevocabularyandstructurestocompareandcontrastthepastandthepresent.
Usesimplepresenttensetodescribedailyactivitiesandroutines;
Writeshortparagraphstodescribeatopicandsharetheiropinions.

4.1Pre-readingActivities(Oneclass)
Warm-upGame:Askstudentstonamethingstheyuseeverydayandwritethemontheboard.Then,askthemifthesethingsexisted100yearsago.Dividestudentsintosmallgroupsandaskthemtodiscussandguesswhichthingsdidordidnotexistinthepast,andsharetheirthoughtswiththeclass.
VocabularyBuilding:Introducenewvocabularybyusingrealobjects,picturesorvideosthatrepresentpastandpresentitems,suchasanolddialphoneandamodernsmartphone,orahorsecarriageandacar.Studentswillbeabletorecognizeandcategorizewordsaccordingtotheirtopics,anddeveloptheircuriosityandimagination.
4.2During-readingActivities(Twoclasses)
ReadingComprehension:Studentsreadthetextsandcompleteexercisestodeveloptheircomprehensionskills.Theywillbeguidedtocompareandcontrastpastandpresenttransportation,clothingandcustoms,andusethetargetvocabularyandstructurestoexpresstheirideas.
ListeningandSpeaking:Studentslistentotheaudiorecordingsorwatchshortvideosintroducingpeople’sdailyroutinesandhobbies,andthenworkinpairsorsmallgroupstosharetheirowndailyroutinesandhobbies.Theywillusethesimplepresenttenseandcomparativestructurestomakedescriptionsandaskfollow-upquestions.
4.3Post-readingActivities(Twoclasses)
WritingPractice:Studentswriteshortparagraphsaboutatopicoftheirchoice,suchas“MyGrandparents’Life”or“TechnologyintheFuture”.Theywillusethetargetvocabularyandstructures,andalsodeveloptheircreativityandcriticalthinkingskills.
Project-basedLearning:Studentsworkingroupstocreateavisualrepresentationofanytopicrelatedto“ThenandNow”,suchasatimeline,amultimediapresentationoramodel.Theywillpresenttheirprojectstotheclassandusetheirinterdisciplinaryskillsinart,technologyorsocialstudies.
5.Assessment
Theassessmentofthisunitwillbebasedonthefollowingcriteria:
Participationinclassactivitiesanddiscussions.
Completionofhomeworkexercisesandquizzes.
Oralfluencyandaccuracyinexpressingideas.
