Thereasoneveryoneisgettingsoexcitedisbecausethereisawidespreadassumptionthatanyform.oftirewhichmightdwellonMarswouldneedliquidwatertolive—or,evenifitcouldnowsubsistbyextractingmoisturefromice,wouldhaveneededliquidwatertoevolvetothatstage.Marshasseenmoreprobeslaunchedtowardsitthanalloftheotherplanetsputtogetherpreciselybecauseofthishopethatitmightharborlife.Sothereisalotridingontheanswer—notleastthefundingoffuturemissions.
