10ChapterOneLiteraturereview1.1AbriefintroductionAsafamousAmericanfemalewriter,MargaretMitchell'snovelGonewiththeWindisdescribedithasbeenlovedbyreadersaroundtheworldafterbeingpublished,andhasbeentranslatedbywritersinvariousregionsoftheworldintomanylanguages.SoitnotonlyhasalargeraudienceintheUnitedStates,butalsohasastronginfluenceinothercountries.IttookMitchelltenyearstocreatethisimmortalliterarymasterpiece.ShealsowonthePulitzerPrizeforFictionin1937.Thenovelisknownasoneofthemostclassiclovenovelsintheworld.1.2StudiesabroadMAQin(2014)madeacontrastiveanalysisofScarlettandBaiLiusu,twocompletelydifferentfemaleimagesinthehistoryofworldliterature.Acomparativestudywasconductedbyanalyzingthefemaleconsciousnessofthetwoheroines,andfoundthatthesefemaleconsciousnessmainlymanifestedinthepursuitoflove,moneyandindependenceaswellastheirpersonalityanddestiny.AlthoughScarlettandBaiLiusuwentthroughsimilarincidents,WesternculturemadeScarlettarebelliousnewwoman.Incontrast,thousandsofyearsoffeudalsocietyinChinahavedeterminedthatBaiLiusu'sfemaleawarenessisnotthoroughenough.LedbetterEN(2015)pointedGonewiththeWindwasregardedasromanticinhistory,butitsvalueinliteratureisnothigh.ThisviewprovedMitchell'spersonalnatureandherdesiretomaintainthegoodcharacterofsouthernsociety.However,underMitchell'svividdescriptionoftheSouth'scollapse,sheappliedherownmythologicalmethodstolinkhernarrativetohercontemporaryexperienceintheGreatDepressionwiththeSouth'spre-warcollapseandthedestructionoftheancientworld.ScarlettO'Haraemergedwiththepowerofcapitalism,withdynastyambitions,echoinganothersignaturemodernistfeature.ZhaoHuiMin(2016)believedinthehistoryofAmericanliterature,GonewiththeWindhadplayedanimportantroleintheliterature.Inthisbook,MitchellcreatedafemaleimagenamedScarlettwithpersistentandindomitablecharacteristic.Scarletthasatypicalrebelliouscharacter,takesadeviantpathagainsttraditionalideas,anddoesnotyieldtothetraditionalpressurefromsociety.1.3StudiesathomeCuiYongjie(2017)deemedthemainreasonwhyGonewiththeWindbecameaworld-famousnovelwastheauthor'sfluentexpressionanddistinctivepersonalitycharacteristics.TheauthorshowshowtheturbulentsocietyintheUnitedStatesandhowhumanssurviveinwar.ThroughthecharacteranalysisofScarlett,readersexperiencedScarlett'sdedicationtoloveandherthinkingaboutlifeandthemeaningofexistenceinthenovel,andthenexploredthesignificanceofhercharactercharacteristicsinthetimes.CaoChen(2018)thoughtGonewiththeWindthoughtanovelabouttheAmericanCivilWar,inwhichtheheroineScarlettwasattractiveanddeeplyattractsfuturegenerationstoreadandthinkaboutit.Thisarticlefocusesontheecologicalfeministthoughtinthenovel.Theuniquesocialperspectivehadimportantimplicationsforthelocalizationofourcountry'sthinking.Ithadcertaintheoreticalvalueandpracticalsignificanceinimprovingthestatusofwomeninourcountry,ecologicalmoraleducation,andtheconstructionofecologicalcivilizationandtheharmoniousdevelopmentofsociety.LiuFeng(2019)consideredthatwiththeawakeningofself-awareness,womendemandthattheybetreatedinthesamewayasmen.TheheroineofthenovelGonewiththeWind,Scarlettleadsthetrendoffeministmovement.Startingfromherself,whilestrivingtoliberateherself,shealsoclarifiedtheideathatmenandwomenarebornequal,andbelievesthatbothmenandwomenhavetherealizationofselfsright.ChapterTwoTextanalysis2.1MargaretMitchellandGonewiththeWind2.1.1MargaretMitchellMitchellwasbornintheUnitedStatesin1900.Whenshewasthreeorfouryearsold,shealwaysheardhergrandmothertellstoriesabouttheAmericanCivilWar.HerfatheroftentalkedabouttheCivilWarinfrontofher.Inadditiontoherownexperience,shewrotethisbook.GongwiththeWind,alovenovelwithabackgroundofwar.2.1.2GonewiththeWindGonewiththeWindisalovenovelcreatedbymodernAmericanwriterMargaretMitchell,anditisalsotheonlynovelwrittenbyher.Itisalsoalandmarkworkinthehistoryofworldliteraturethatcannotbesurpassed.In1937,thenovelwonthePulitzerPrize,afterwhichitwasadaptedintoamoviethatentitledBeautyinaTroubledWorld.TheheroineofthisnovelisnamedScarlett,andthestorytellsthelovestorybetweenher,AshleyandRhett.TheauthorMitchellusedthebackgroundoftheAmericanwartobuildScarlett,amundaneandcontemporaryfemalecharacter,inordertoshowpeopletheviewsandvaluesoflifeinthesouthernUnitedStates.Scarlettisdescribedbytheauthorisacontradictionbecauseshehasastrongdesireforloveandsheisatypicalromantic.However,sheisathoroughrealistinlife.Theauthorputsitinthatspecialbackgroundofwar.Itdepictsaheroinewhodarestofightagainstfateandhasanoptimisticspirit.TheauthorMargaretMitchellisawriterwhohighlyvaluestheliberationofwomen'sthoughts,andGonewiththeWindisthefirstandonlynovelwithabackgroundintheAmericanCivilWar.TheauthorusedthetheprocessoftheAmericanCivilWarastimelinetocharacterizetheheroineScarlett'slife.Inthisway,shecreatedavividandactivefemalecharacter.Italsoexpressestheauthor'scritiqueofthetraditionalAmericanideasatthattime,andtheauthor'spursuitoftheemancipationofwomeninthenewera.GonewiththeWindiscalledaclassicbecauseitrepresentstheepitomeofhistoryinsomeways,aswellasthedeclineofthesouthernUnitedStates.2.2Scarlett'slifebackground cttheattentionofeveryoneandhowtostealthelimelight.Scarlettwasjustasimplelittlegirl.Hervanityanduniquepersonalitymadeherbelievethatthemeansandcharmwereenoughtoconquereverythingintheworld,especiallymen.Thiskindofwomanwhoisslow,vanity,capriciousandcapriciousshouldbeverysuperficial,butshewasnotwillingtobemediocre.Shehadcompletedthechallengeofdestinygivenbyherwillfulnessandperseverance,andbravelyfoughtagainstit.Scarlett'spersonalityisnotperfect,butherrebelliouspersonalityofdaring,unwillingness,mediocrity,aggressiveness,andperseverancemakeshermoreviableandfightsagainstfate.2.3.2StubbornandselfishAshley,agentlemanofthesoutherntraditional,waswell-informed,andmadeScarlettfallinloveatthefirstsight.ScarlettthoughtthatshehadenoughcharmtomakeAshleyfallinlovewithher.Shebrokethetraditionalethicsandfranklyexpressedherloveforhimregardlessofthereservedimage.However,Ashleydidnotrespondenthusiastically.Atthebanquet,shelearnedthatAshleywasabouttomarryMelanie,andshebecameangryandhated.Beforetheygotmarried,shemarriedAshley’sbrotherCharles,whichwasdeliberatelyshowntoAshleywhenshemarriedCharlesforavengingAshley’srefusal.UntilCharlesdiedonthebattlefield,Scarlettdidn'treallyfallinlovewithhim.InordertofeedthefamilyandkeepTaraManor,Scarlettevensnatchedhersister'sfiance,Frankwhowasrich.Scarlettwasarrogantandself-centralnaturally.Shewasruthless,contendingforstrength,achievinghergoalconsistently,fightinginstinctively,andpassionatelypursuingthetruelove.Butwhenloveandbenefitareinthedifferentside,shewillsacrificeloveinordertoexchangebenefits.RhettwasthesecondpersonScarlettloves,buttherelationshipbetweenthemwascomplicated.RhettcanalwayspointoutScarlett'sproblems,buthealsohelpedandwarmedupintimewhensheencountersdifficulties.Scarlett'spersonalitymadeheralwaysexpressherloveforAshleyinfrontofRhettwithoutreservation,regardlessofRhett'sfeelings,whichmadeRhettsuffermentaltorture.Hefeltemotionallydistressedaboutmarriage,soheresolutelychosetoleaveafterhisdaughterdied.Scarlett'sruthlessandpurposefulmarriagewasverydifferentfromRhett'smarriageattitude.Scarletthadalwayslivedinheridealworldwithignoringtheemotionsandself-esteemofothers,whichleadtotheendoftheirmarriage.2.3.3StrongandcourageousScarlettwasstrongandcourageous.Shehadabeautifulappearanceandextraordinarywisdom,butitmadehersufferintroublesanddifficulties.Sheexperiencedthreemarriagesinheryouth,andhademotionalrelationshipswithfourmen.Afteraseriesofdifficultiesandfrustrationssuchasfrustration,herhusband’sdeath,herdaughter’sdeath,andherlover’sseparation,shenevergaveuptofightandstruggle.Scarletthadinfiniteenergy.Afterthewar,reliedontheloveformanorandlandshechangedherarroganceandvanitywhichshehaddevelopedinluxurylife.Shesilentlyenduredtheburdenoflife,begantotakecareofherfamilyandwork.Onceshecouldnotpickuphersockswhenshedroppedthemonthefloor,whilesheshotandkilledtheNorthernArmywhobrokeintoherhome.Inordertosupportthefamily,shegaveupherextravagantlifeandworkedlikeafarmeralldaylong.2.3.4ShrewdandgreedyAfterthebaptismoftheCivilWar,Scarlettbegantochangefromasmart,brave,hard-workingyoungwomantoaselfish,greedyambitionist.Self-willed,selfishnessandvainvanitycharacterbeforethewarwerelessobscuredbyherhardworkandhardwork.Shealwayshadaclearandprofoundunderstandingoflifeindepth.Sherealizedthatinthefaceofthisutilitarianworld,onlystayingrationalandawakecanbethebaseofpreservingthefamily.Undertheinfluenceofthisthinking,shehadagrowingappetiteformoney.Inordertomakemoremoneyfaster,sheabandonedthetraditionalconceptthatwomenwereignorantandstupid,andplannedtobuyafactorybyherownmanagement.Atfirst,otherbusinessmenwerelaughingather,butScarlettdidn'tflinch.Regardlessofothers'eyesandridicule,sheinsistedondoingwhatshethoughtwasright.Hershrewdnessistheproductofthestressoflife,andScarlett'sstrongresistancetotheunfairsociety.2.3.5ThepursuitofequalityInthemarriagewithRhett,Scarlettlivedaluxuriouslife,andsheenjoyedthejoyofmaterial.However,duringtheCivilWar,Scarlettwhohadbeenstrugglingforthefoodandsafetyofherfamily,hadunconsciouslyformedanindependentpersonality,theperseverance,determinationtostruggleandworkhard.Scarlettpursuedthewinningandwasunwillingtogiveintoothers.ShethoughtthatRhetthadalotofmoney,butthemoneywasnotbelongoherown.Ifshedidnothaveenoughabilitytomakemoney,shemustaccompanyhimandhadnorighttospeakanddecide.Shecan'tstandthiskindofoppression.Shebelievedthatawomancanonlystandonthesameclasswithamanifshewasfinanciallyindependent.Therefore,despiteeveryone'soppositiontoheractions,itturnsoutthattheroleofawomanwasnotonlyathomeandinsmallbusinesses,butstartingherownbusinessandachievingsuccess.Scarlett'sspiritoffearlessness,innovationandentrepreneurshiphadcreatedanewsociety.Shewasregardedasanearlygenerationblindpersonintheculturalrightsmovementandabuilderofthenewsociety.

ChapterThreeResultsandvalues3.1ResultsObviously,ScarlettisnotaperfectwomanintheGonewiththeWind.sheisextremelygreedy,extremelyvanityandselfish.Inordertoachieveherowngoals,shedideverythingshecould.Shewasbraveandstrong,daretoacceptchallenges,neverbowedherheadfaceddifficultiesinlife,andalwaysstruggledwithallkindsofmisfortunes.Forherlovedonesandtheland,shesacrificedherselfagainandagain,andfoughtresolutelyagainstlife,facingtherealitywithcourage.Thisisthereasonwhytheheroine’scharismaisenduring.Shehasnopettybourgeoisieforherunscrupulousmeans,buthertenacity,herpursuitofindependenceandequality,andherdaringqualitieshaveagreatpracticalsignificance.Scarlett'sbehaviorgreatlyexceededthepositioningofwomen'simagesinthesocietyinwhichshelived.Shecompletelybrokeawayfromthetraditionalfemaledefinitionofthesocietyandtheshacklesofimages,andfoughtagainstthesocietywheremendominatedandcontrolledeverything.Scarletthasmademoreandmorewomenawarethatwomenmustbeself-respecting,independent,andstrong.Inaddition,thefeministcolorreflectedinScarlett'sbodyisnotawoman'sactiveresistance,butanunconsciousself-emancipationorresistancebehavior,whichisfullyconsistentwiththeobjectivelawoffemalegrowth.Onlywhenwomengetmoretemperedinreallife,theyreallyrealizethesignificanceofself-development,andslowlygrowandmakecontinuousprogressinreality.

3.2ValuesInherviewoflove,loveandmarriagecanbeseparated,orakindofspiritualandphysicalseparation.Shedoesn'tcareabouteachother'smarriage,sheputsasidealltheboldnesstoloveAshley,andstrivesforherownhappiness.Shealsocomestoputloveintheethicalandmoralshackles.Herloveisalwaysfreeandunrestrained.ThisisalsocausedbythedifferencesbetweenEasternandWesterncultures,butthenatureofloveisnotchangedbythechangeofexpression.FormostofScarlett'slife,shewasdeceivedbylove.Doalotofwrongthingsbecauseofconfusion.ItwasnotuntiltheendthatshediscoveredthatAshley,whomshehadalwaysloved,didnotloveherandwasnotasgoodasshethought.Infact,shedidn'tloveAshley,butaperfectimageinherheart.ThemoreAshleyrejectsher,themoreperfecttheimageinherheartis,whichisinlinewithanoldsayinginChina:Thebestisnotavailable,anditispreciselybecauseofherfalseobsessionthatshemissesthetruesidearoundher.Happiness.Thisalsogivesusarevelation:peoplemustlearntodistinguishrightfromwrong,anddon'tlethappinessslipawayfromtheirfingers.Scarlett'sconsciousnessofpursuingeconomicindependencewiththeconsciousnessofthebuddingbourgeoisieisanimportantfactorforhercharisma.Inapatriarchalsociety,womenmustbeattachedtomeninordertoguaranteebasiclife.Thefeministwavebeganinthe
