not

many

records

a

long

time,

the

onlyacceptedimage

of

Austen

was

an

amateur

sketch

of

an

adultAusten

made

by

her

sister

Cassandra.

However

recentlya

professionally

painted,

full-length

portrait

of

a

teenagegirl

owned

by

a

member

of

the

Austen

familyhas

comeup

for

sale.

Although

the

professional

painting

is

nottitled

Jane

Austen,

there

are

good

reasons

to

believe

sheis

the

subject.Main

it

looks

like

the

canvas

was

used

for

at

a

time

when

Austen

was

clearly

olderthan

the
