TheissueofillegalimmigrationhaslongbeencontroversialintheUnitedStates.Thereisnothingnewaboutthepoliticalandculturaltensionsthesemigrationsbring.Assimilationtakes(atleast)ageneration,forobviousreasons.Residentsdislikesomeoftheconsequencesiftheyaredirectlyaffectedbyimmigrantarrivals,orfearthem.However,thereisnoevidencethatillegalimmigrationincreasestherateofcrimeintheUnitedStates.IllegalImmigrantsEstimatesinAmerica’sModernImmigrantsProblem:
