I have been studying the traits and dispositions of the “lower animals
4、”, and contrasting them with the traits and dispositions of man. Highly organized and effective, the judges would first attempt to bring the accused back to the faith; upon refusal, the person would be condemned and handed
42、 over to the civil power for the execution of a sentence, which was often death by burning.(4) he was at in France for a couple of centuries: This line by Mark Twain is to be understood against the background of the French history from the events leading up to and the events following in the wake of
