1、Unit1 Festivals around the worldGood morning, everyone. Im very pleased to have the opportunity to talk about some of my teaching ideas. My topic is the reading text: Festivals and celebrations in unit 1 Festivals around the world. It is made up of three parts.1. The analysis of the teaching materia
2、l:This topic is from the first unit of book 3 for high school students PEP. It talks about many kinds of festivals in different parts of the world. The first reading briefly describes four different kinds of festivals. By studying this unit, students can know that festivals exit everywhere, and many
3、 of festivals in different countries celebrate similar ideas. An important element in the unit is the opportunity to compare and contrast cultural practices in China and other countries.2. Teaching aims:a. Knowledge aim: Make students know about the holiday all over the world and the detail of the h
4、oliday, such as origin of the holiday, content of the holiday, and the date of the holiday, etc. b. Ability aim: Improve students oral English, listening and reading ability by talking about festivals and celebrations in English.c. Emotional aim: To familiarize Ss with the significance of festivals.
5、To guide Ss to know about the foreign festivals, and to respect other countries custom.3. Teaching important points:How to make the Ss understand the text better.4. Teaching difficult points:Enable the Ss grasp the using of Modal Verbs.5. Analysis of students Students in the first grade of high scho
6、ol grasped lots of language points and they are highly motivated to improve their language skills and curious about western culture. However, their ability to communicate with others and reading comprehension skills still needs to be improved.6. Teaching method:I will adopt communicative, task-based
7、 language teaching approach and situational teaching method to develop their thinking and communicative ability. 7. Teaching proceduresStep 1 warming-upShow them some pictures of many kinds of festivals and let them talk with each other, and then use the pictures about festivals to learn new words,
8、for example, Obon Halloween, Valentines Day and so on.Q1, What kinds of festivals in China do you know about?Q2, What festivals of foreign countries do you know?Purpose: Open the Ss mind.Get them to be interested in what is going to learn.What festivals or celebrations do you have in your city or to

What part of a festival do you like best- the activities, the music, the sights, the food or the people who visit?The purpose is to stimulate students interest in the new topic of this lesson and introduce the topic.Step 2. pre-readingRead the passage as quickly as they can. Then do the Ex .1 in
10、 P.3. To improve students skimming ability to understand the main idea of the passage.Step 3. While-readingRead the passage carefully again and answer some detailed questions on the screen.Qs: What festivals are mentioned in each paragraph?Which three times of the year did people celebrate in Ancien
11、t Times?What kinds of things are done to celebrate the Obon Festival?Why does Indian have a national festival on October 2?How do Europeans celebrate Thanksgiving festivals?Name three things people do at Spring Festival.Purpose: Further understand the text (Train further reading ability) to find out
12、 some different sentences and details of the text. It aims to strengthen students scanning ability by reading for detailed information.Step 4. post readingRetell the passage according to the topic sentences.Purpose: I want to know if my students understand the whole text really and if they master wh
13、at I mean to tell them in this class. Whats more, I want to let them have the ability of introducing and analyzing expression. At the same time, I will write down the topic sentences on the blackboard according to what the students find, so they can retell it easily.Discussion Which festivals you th
