1、商务英语(上)期末复习指导(新)2010年10月一、复习范围课程终结性考试即期末考试,复习范围为教材环球商务英语(1)(2)两册的全部内容。该教材以模块为单位,两册共有8个模块;以公司作为进行各种商业活动的前提和基本单位,详细介绍了与客户的关系、公司的财务状况、产品、技术革新、如何招聘新的员工、如何做市场调查、如何做广告、产品的促销等内容。8个模块的重点内容及复习范围如下:Module 1 Change and the companyThis module looks at the changes which can take place in an organisation and the

2、effect these changes can have on the employees. It considers which have happened as a result of technology, new working practices and increasing globalization.In Unit 1 How companies operate you look at how organizations can be structured. You study the language for describing company structure and

3、personal responsibilities, and you also look at the development of successful products.In Unit 2 Responding to change you consider the effect of change on individuals and you read about the global market. You focus on new ways of buying and selling using the latest technology. You study the language

4、 used to describe trends and changes in them.In Unit 3 Ways of working you look at different work patterns and, in particular, at the effects of technology on working practices, including the trend towards working from home. You also look at regulations associated with the workplace and the language

5、 used to describe them.Unit 4 Pronunciation and review introduces you to phonetic script. You revise the material covered in the module and practice your spoken English in a number of communicative activities.Module 2 The customerThis module looks at the different ways organizations can provide effi

6、cient services to their customers. It considers various aspects of customer service, ways in which organizations can get feedback from their customers, and the concept of Total Quality Management.Unit 1 Customer service looks at ways in which an organisation can improve its service to customers and

7、how it can explain its customer service policy both to its staff and to the public at large. You study the language used in an action plan and in briefing sessions.In Unit 2 Customer feed back you look at a number of ways in which an organisation can find out what its customers think of its products

8、. You focus on the language used in interviews and on the telephone. You also look at a written questionnaire.Unit 3 Total Quality Management focuses on how TQM can be defined and looks at an approach to managing staff.Unit 4 Pronunciation and review continues work on phonetic script and looks in pa

9、rticular at consonants. You revise the material covered in this module, and practice your spoken English in a number of communicative activities.Module 3 FinanceIn this module you look at finance and the important role it plays in all business decision making.Unit 1 Finance awareness deals with the

10、basic practical questions behind company finance. You look at the most common financial documents and the basic language needed to communicate effectively in English about financial matters. You finish the unit by writing a report.In Unit 2 Finance in practice you look at how finance works in the co

11、ntext of a successful international transport company. The unit ends with your giving a presentation.In Unit 3 Setting up in business you prepare a business plan for a business of your own and go on to discuss your plan with the bank manager.Finally, in Unit 4 Pronunciation and review you study word

12、 stress, review the material covered in this module and practice your spoken English in a number of communicative activities.Module 4 A new productWe live in a world which is changing fast, and companies cannot rely on their products always being successful. They need to develop new products and ada

13、pt existing ones in order to keep ahead of the competition. This module describes the preparation leading to the launch of a new product on to the market.In Unit 1 What do people want? you look at market research, the ways in which it is carried out, and the role it plays in the development of a new

14、 product. You complete the unit by writing a short market research report, which includes information taken from graphs and charts.In Unit 2 Team spirit you see how companies organise teams to work on product development projects. You practice arranging meetings and discussing schedules on the telep

15、hone. You finish the unit by discussing how to share out work with another team member.How products can be promoted and launched is the subject of Unit 3 Promoting your product, in which you see how different companies approach the question of product development. You discuss the advantages and disa

16、dvantages of different types of promotion, and you plan the launch and promotional campaign for a practical product. Finally, you book a stand at a trade fair.In Unit 4 pronunciation and review you study sentence stress. You also review the material covered earlier in the module and practice your sp

17、oken English in a number of communicative activities.Module 5 Responding to technologyIn module 5 you look at how companies and individuals respond to the introduction of new technology and study the language used in connection with it.In Unit1Technology and company you look first at the effect of t

18、echnology on companies. You hear a number of employees giving their reactions to new technology and to the training they are given to enable them to use it. You practice a number of writing skills, including ways of taking notes, writing summaries and reports.Unit 2 Making things clear begins with i

19、nstructions and how to formulate them. You also look at company helpdesks for computer users and then go on to study how processes are described.Unit 3 The Internet and change considers some aspects of the changes that have come about in business as a result of the expansion of the Internet and the

20、effect of technological change on work patterns and opportunities. You study the language of probability and possibilities.In Unit 4 Pronunciation and review you study words that have stressed and unstressed (weak) forms. You also review the material covered earlier in the module and practise your s

21、poken English in a number of communicative activities.Module 6 Recruiting new staffThis module looks at the recruitment processwhy companies need to employ new staff, how they find and appoint new staff, and how they introduce new staff to the company.In Unit 1 Deciding to recruit you look at the fi

22、rst stage of the recruitment process. This is the writing of a job description and a person specification to identify exactly the type of person needed for the post. Then you look at placing an advertisement for the vacancy.Unit 2 Applying for posts deals with the next stage of the recruitment proce

23、ss from the point of view of both the employers and the applicant (the person who is looking for the job). You look at how to write a CV (curriculum vitae, Latin for an account of your life), which is a document that outlines your personal, educational and employment history. The unit ends by lookin

24、g at how candidates are chosen and called for an interview.In Unit 3 Selection and induction you look in more detail at how people prepare for a job interview, what happens in the interview itself and how the company assesses and chooses the right person. You also look at what is involved in writing

25、 references and, in the final session, you look at how a new number of staff is introduced to the company and read a case study of an induction programme.In Unit 4 Pronunciation and review Session 10 deals with intonation, and you review material covered in this module in Session 11. In Session 12 y

26、ou have the chance to practice what you have learned with a partner.Module 7 Advertising and CompetitionIn order to be successful, organisations must know what their competitors are doing and where they themselves fit into the market. When they have this information, they may then decide to make cha

27、nges to their brand image, their advertising, and their products or to other aspects of the company. In this module you look at ways of finding out about the market and the competition, and study the ways in which organisations use the data the collect.Unit 1 Researching the competition focuses on t

28、he process of collecting information and on the ways in which such data can be used. You complete a competitor analysis chart and study language used for making comparisons.In Unit 2 Research, planning and advertising, you consider some of the approaches organisations can use to target specific cust

29、omers. You look at different kinds of market research, and at some examples of advertising. You also study a SMART (Self-Monitoring, Analysis and Reporting Technology) action plan, a management tool for making sure aims and objectives are properly defines. You review a number of prepositions and stu

30、dy structures used to describe change.Unit 3 The importance of the brand analyses ways of promoting and repositioning a brand image. You look at how one company has succeeded in changing their brand image, and you study another management tool, the SWOT analysis (SWOT analysis is a tool for auditing

31、 an organization and its environment. It is the first stage of planning and helps marketers to focus on key issues. SWOT stands for strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. Strengths and weaknesses are internal factors. Opportunities and threats are external factors).Unit 4 Pronunciation a

32、nd review continues the work on intonation patterns you began in Module 6. You revise the material covered in Module 8 and practise your spoken English in a number of communicative activities.Module 8 Selling the productThis module completes the course by looking at a number of aspects of selling a

33、product or selling a product or a service. In exploring this area, you will work on some longer texts than you have dealt with before.Unit 1 Selling covers the skills you need in order to be successful salesperson and the language used to promote a product, both in writing and when making a presenta

34、tion. You also look at negotiation and how you use certain question forms.Unit 2 Caring for customers is about responding to customers who have a complaint. You study the language to use when making a complaint and apologizing, and look at how your company can deal with complaints in a positive way.

35、Unit 3 The wider world is about the trend towards international commerce and the factors that companies need to consider in the global marketplace. You look at national differences and hear about working in different cultures. You also read about the effects that cultures can have on people and how

36、these can be overcome.Finally, in Unit 4 Pronunciation and review you look back at what you have learned about English pronunciation in the course. 48、诉与道歉的用语 如何写备忘录第三单元(The wider world) 商务内容要点:商务全球化的趋势;在全球性的市场中,公司应考虑哪些因素;民族差异;在不同的文化中工作;“文化震荡”可能对人产生的影响;如何克服这些影响。 语言学习要点: 发表意见;赞同或反对别人意见的用语 国家,语言与民族的说法 谈论相似与差异所用的说法 英国英语与美国英语的差异此外,每个模块的第四单元均为“语音与复习”,学习语音语调方面的内容,复习该模块中学过的英语语言技能。二、考核方式本课程考核采取两种方式:形成性考核和课程终结性考试。课程总成绩以百分制计。形成性考核占20%,课程终结考试占80%。 1、形成性考核形成性

49、考核包括平时作业,参与面授辅导和各项教学活动的情况,以及学生对学习过程的自我监控情况。2、终结性考试终结性考试为书面闭卷,考试时间改为90分钟。试卷分为四部分,卷面分值为100分:第一部分为听力,占30分; 第二部分为词汇与结构,占30分;第三部分为简答题,占15分;第四部分为阅读理解,占25分。试题题型如下:Paper 1听力部分 (30points)一般包括2段短文和1段对话,每一段将放2遍,说话人的语速一般略慢于正常语速。所包括的题型一般有以下几种:(1)根据所听的材料,判断下面的陈述正确与否,其实也就是我们经常遇到的True or False Questions。(2)根据所听的材料,

50、填空或回答问题。(3)还有一种题型是4选1,这是最为考生所熟悉的,这也同样是考察考生对整段材料的把握和理解。Paper 2词汇与结构部分 (30 points)主要包括以下几大题型:(1)单词或词语和其英文释义匹配。这种题型在该教材中得到了充分的体现。一些商贸英语中的专门词汇在这本书中都有英文注释,方便学生正确地理解这些专业术语的含义。(3)出题人将给出1篇短文,其中有若干空白处,另外出题人又给出一些单词或词组,由考生将它们对号入座。此类型考题主要测试的是考生是否能够从整体上把握整篇短文,站在语篇的高度上,而不简单地从词、句子的层面上理解文章。这同样也对考生提出了更高的要求。Paper 3 简

51、答题部分 (15 points)要求考生根据所学过的内容简短地回答问题。这主要是检测考生对一些基本的商务概念和惯例的掌握情况,以及正确地组织语言,来回答问题的写作技能。Paper 4 阅读理解 (25 points)此部分主要包括以下几个题型:(1)根据所读短文,回答问题。(2)四选一,这恐怕是考生最为熟悉的类型。(3)根据短文,判断下面的陈述是对还是错。无论是哪一种类型,都主要是考察考生的阅读理解能力。现作将四个部分的题型具体说明如下Paper 1 Listening Test(30 points)There are three parts to the test and you will

52、hear each part twice. There will be a pause before each part to allow you to look through the question and other pause to let you think about your answers. Write your answers in the spaces indicated in the test paper. You will have ten minutes at the end of the listening test to transfer your answer

(10 points)这道题要求考生在收听商务短文两遍之后,根据所听到的信息对第11至第15个陈述句进行正误判断。听力材料难度与教材中的听力材料相当,主要考查考生的听力理解能力和正误判断能力。因此考生在平时一定要反复收听教材所配发的9盒磁带。俗话说,“熟能生巧”。恐怕说的就

55、是这个道理吧。Paper 2 Vocabulary and Structure (30 points)Part I. Match the words on the left with their definitions on the right. (8 points)这道题分别给出了18 八个单词或短语以及ah八个英语解释。要求学生将每个单词或短语的正确解释选出来。如:1to manufacture a. to make something, often in a factory2delivery b. getting the goods to the customer3infrastruct
