3、nning &Design (CIUPD) is a strategic partner of Space Syntax Limited, the strategic consulting company established at the Bartlett, University College London in 1989. Space Syntax has provided CIUPD with elementary (2015) and advanced (2018) training in the Space Syntax Approach. This training has p

4、rovided CIUPD with rich, practical experience in the application of space syntax theories and methodologies across various kinds of planning projects, including spatial development strategies, masterplanning, urban design and rail transit planning.CIUPD is currently the only Chinese Planning and Des

5、ign Institute that is trained and certified by Space Syntax, Workshop descriptionIn this workshop, four planners from CIUPD will describe the practical experience of using space syntax theories and methodologies in three types of planning projects: urban design, rail transit and big data application

6、s. The workshop will begin with an overview of the Space Syntax Approach by Tim Stonor and Kayvan Karimi.Case 1: taking the urban design of the Changchun railway station area as an example, the presenter will demonstrate how to identify local business centres and then how to use a spatial model to f

7、orecast traffic flow patterns. Then, taking various spatial parameters and the traffic flow forecast as the evaluation tool, they will show how the tools can be used to propose options to optimise both movement flows and the performance of different land uses, especially retail. Case 2: on the subje

8、ct of public transport, the layout of Metro Line 6 in Changchun will be used by the presenter to show how space syntax theories and methodologies can be used to construct an Integrated Urban Model (IUM) that combines spatial layout attraction with land use attraction and transport attraction factors

9、. The IUM can then be used as an evaluation system to develop and test proposals for the optimal alignment of the metro line as well as the location of metro stations with the greatest economic potential, including the best location for the entrance and exit points to the stations. In this way the p

10、resentation will demonstrate the use of data to assist in the making of planning decisions. Case 3: Changchuns current rail transit lines 1, 3 and 4 will be taken as examples to show how, on the basis of the Space Syntax model, the areas surrounding metro stations can be classified and then, through

11、 urban planning and design interventions, better connected to the stations. By combining big data and spatial analysis, including analysis of mobile signaling data, this part of the workshop will focuse on the patterns of population flow between cities and towns in Changchun.Case 4:By combining big

13、ftware and QGIS software. They will also need to install the Space Syntax Toolkit plug-in for QGIS software (search for the Space Syntax Toolkit in the menu Plugins - Manage and Install Plugins, and click Install).The Space Syntax Toolkit plug-in has been developed to undertake Space Syntax analysis

14、 within a QGIS environment. . Both the QGIS and the Space Syntax Toolkit plug-ins are free of charge.Requirement on workshop organizersProjector, table, power, wireless Internet.Presenter short bioLei LiuLei Liu is a core member of the Space Syntax team at the Changchun Institute of Urban Planning &

15、 Design , CIUPD). He has worked at CIUPD since 2012, participating in the masterplanning of the city of Changchun and in the overall urban design of the city “gold ring” project, as well as underground space planning and other projects. The variety and complexity of his projects have given him consi

16、derable experience in urban planning. He has particular expertisein using Space Syntax technology to create Integrated Urban Models, as well as in the application of these models to assist in urban planning projects.ZheHao DongZheHao Dong is one of the Changchun urban and rural design and research i

17、nstitute project director. Since graduation from Harbin Institute of Technology, he has been engaged in the urban design aspects, involved in western new city core arearailway stations urban design projects in Changchun, especially good at using the parameterized analysis of space syntax support urb

18、an design, has accumulated rich experience in urban design project.WenJing ChenWenJing Chen is a member of the core group of spatial syntax in Changchun Institute Of Urban Planning &Design. She participated in the spatial syntax analysis of the city “gold ring” overall urban design in Changchun City

19、 and the urban design of the east-west axis of Changchun. Her research field is mainly focus in the localization practice of spatial syntax, her recent study is using space syntax to find the correlation between traffic volume and urban space form during the construction of rail transit. ZhiQiang Li

20、uZhiQiang Liu is a urban planner in the Changchun Institute of Urban Planning and Design. His academic interests are focused on the creative applications of the new technology and Big data in urban planning research. As a consultant he has been involved the projects in Changchun which include the sp

21、atial analysis and urban vitality research based on the social media data and Cell phone signaling data.Prof Tim Stonor Tim Stonor is an architect and urban planner who has devoted his career to the analysis and design of human behaviour patterns the ways in which people move, interact and transact

22、in buildings and urban places. He is an internationally recognised expert in the design of spatial layouts and, in particular, the role of space in the generation of social, economic and environmental value. As Managing Director, Tim is responsible for the strategic direction of Space Syntax globall

23、y. This role has four key parts: a) high level advocacy to governments, private corporations and other stakeholders, b) new business generation, c) quality maintenance as a member of Space Syntaxs Project Review Panel and d) development of Space Syntaxs business strategy.Dr Kayvan KarimiDr Kayvan Karimi is an architectural and urban designer
