Du Fu, known as the Sage of Poetry, lived and wrote in the eighth century, and his work is still available to modern Chinese readers. Du Fu, in fact, is still widely quoted (引用) in China today, and he

27、 has had a great influence on Chinese poetry in the past 1,200 years. However, the poets complete works werent unavailable in English translation in the past. Conant University Professor Stephen Owen, who spent eight years on The Poetry of Du Fu, a 3,000-page translation published by De Gruyter, has
