The main sources of deforestation in the Amazon are human settlement and development of the land. The soils in the Amazon are productive for just a short period of

10、 time, so farmers are constantly moving to new areas and clearing more land. These farming practices led to deforestation and caused extensive environmental damage.Deforestation In the 1970s construction began on the Trans-Amazonian highway. This highway represented a major threat to the Amazon rain
