Introduction: (5 minutes)A high school student “announced” in class that she was going to write and illustr

3、ate her own books; it must have taken great courage on her part to do so. She never expected that she would be bluntly discouraged by her English teacher and laughed at by her classmates. A few years later, this student wrote her first book Crying Wind, which soon became a bestseller, and was transl

4、ated into 15 languages. This book also became required reading in Native American Schools in Canada. By the time she wrote this article she had been an author of eight books. She does not think of herself as a “genius” with a gift for writing. She even claims that she never writes “right.” Thats the

5、 life story told us by a woman writer, Linda Stafford by name.Linda Stafford is a Native American writer. She was brought up by her grandmother on an Indian reservation. She attended several universities in the 1960s. Many of her stories are based on her own experiences. Crying Wind is actually her

6、birth name and she writes under the pseudonym Linda Stafford. All her books have a message of hope and the optimistic theme of never giving up.III. Background information(15minutes)1. 9、oul at Work 3. Grading System in the US - The A-F systemIn many countries including the United States, grades are given on an A-F system where A is best and F is worst. The letter E is typically omitted, since an F can be turned into an E by drawing a small line at the bottom of the letter, and beca

10、use E traditionally stood for Excellent but would be very poor on an A-F system. An F grade is failing and results in denial of course credit, while a D is poor, but passing. Most U.S. colleges require grades of C or better in ones major, as well as a 2.0 (C) grade point average. A = excellent B = g

11、ood C = average D = poor F = failure 4. Webster DictionaryIn 1806, Noah Webster published his first dictionary. His great dictionary, An American Dictionary of the English Language, appeared in two volumes in 1828. This work included 12,000 words and 40,000 definitions that had never before appeared
