、靠离泊作业2讲解 Berthing means bringing a vessel to her berth until the ship is made fast. A ship may berth port or starboard side on or bow or stem on.vThe term “berth” refers to the quay, or wharf, or, pier or jetty where the ship comes alongside, but it may also mean a place in which a vessel is moored

、or anchored.vThe berthing and unberthing manoeuvres require great knowledge and skill by the master, officers vand the crew, as well as an excellent team-work with the rope-runners and the mooring party ashore.vA ship may berth port or starboard side to, with no wind or tide, with the tide ahead, wi

、th the wind onshore or offshore. The master, the pilot and the tug skippers must have good local knowledge of the tides, wind conditions, depths and aids to navigation, but they also have to take into consideration the transverse and axial thrust of the propeller, how the ship responds to the rudder

、 and how much power she develops when running astern.vBerthing starboard side to quay right hand fixed propeller calm conditionsv1. Approach the quay at a shallow angle, say about 15 degrees, engines dead slow ahead.vStop engines on approach taking account of the headway which the ship will carry.v2

、. Approaching the berth, apply port helm to cause the stern to swing towards the berth. Engines astern to stop the ship and the effects of transverse thrust will check the stern swing.v3. Stop engines. Send away head and stern lines and make fast.vNB. In the event that there is limited room ahead of

、rboard side to quay right hand fixed propeller calm conditionsvThe objective is to clear the berth when a tidal stream is ahead of the vessel. The action allows a wedge of water to flow between the dock wall and the ships side to forcing the vessel off the berth.v1. The vessel should be singled up t

、o a head line, and an aft spring.v2. The aft spring line should initially be kept tight, while the head line is slacked down. The tidal stream effect would pivot the vessel about the spring and cause the bow to move off the berth. The weight of stream water moving between the berth and the ships side, forces the stern a little away from the dock.v3. Dead slow ahead on engines and let go forward. Stop engines and let go aft.v4.
