The teaching material I am going to talk about is the Reading part“Dying to be thin ” . Ill analyze this lesson from the following four parts.Part One. Analysis of the Teaching Mater

2、ial(一 ) Status and Function1.This is a key lesson in Unit3 of Module 1, which is the reading part reflecting the relationship between figure and health. From this lesson, the useful expressions can be used to talk about the theme freely and vividly. Therefore this lesson is an important part of the

3、teaching material.2.This lesson is the second part of Unit 3 which provides a detailed example after Welcome and is helpful to make Ss learn the rest of this unit, for the task in the unit is to make a booklet about fitness and there are some sentences which can be used to introduce the grammar.3.Su

4、ch a topic is related to daily life, so it is helpful to raise learning interests of students and it also helps Ss understand beauty correctly.(二 )Analysis of StudentsThe Ss in Senior One have learned English for several years, but they are still lack of reading strategies and their vocabularies are

5、 limited.(三 )Teaching Aims and DemandsThe teaching aim is established according to New Curriculum of Senior School English.1.Knowledge objects(1) To enable Ss to understand the text while finishing some exercise ;(2) To enlarge Ssvocabulary in the situation like this.2.Ability objects(1) To improve

6、Ss reading ability.(2)To develop Ss vocabulary strategy.(3) To encourage Ss sense of cooperation in their studies.3.Moral objectsTo guide Ss into a better understanding of what is real beauty and health and thus to stimulate their sense of safety and responsibility.(四 )Teaching Key and Difficult Poi

7、ntsThe teaching key and difficult points are based on the reading aims and demands.Teaching Key Points:1. Task-based teaching methodAs we all know: the main instructional aims of learning English in the Middle Scho

9、ol is to cultivate S s abilities of listening, speaking, reading, writing and their good sense of the Englishlanguage. So in this lesson I llmainly use “ Communicative teaching” method, “ Audio-visual”teaching method and“-basedTask ” teaching method.Part Three.Studying WaysActivity-based learning, w

10、hich includes individual work; pair work; group work and class workPart 4 Teaching ProcedureStep1.Lead-inShow some pictures of different persons,including some famous film stars and sportsman,and then ask Ss to talk freely about who is more attractive and why.Ss may have different answers.The teache

11、r could make a conclusion:different people have diffferent standards of beauty.Ask them to predict the article according to the title “ Dying to be thin ” ,and leave a question“Which is more important,figure or health?Why? ”which will be discussed later.(This is to arouse Ss interest and to lead the

12、m into the theme of the text.)Step 2 Comprehensive ReadingActivity 1 Skimming (class work)Ss are required to go through the passage quickly to get the general idea and pay special attention to the first or the last sentence of each Para, then finish Ex C1 and answer the following questions:1. Where

13、does Amy come from?2. What did Amy take to lose weight?3. What caused Amy liver to fail?.Goal: To develop Ss reading skill - skimming, that is,how can we get the general idea of a passage as quickly as possible.Activity 2 Scanning (group work)Divide Ss into three groups.Members in a group cooperate

14、to make a conclusion and list the key words of the paragraph on the blackboard.Step 3 Retelling the TextAsk Ss to retell the content of each e-mail according to the key words on the blackboard.(This is to help Ss understand the content better and to improve Ss speaking ability.)Step4 Debate Activity

15、Give Ss chances to practise their English by debating.Organize Ss into two groups to hold a debate activity. One side supports the idea that Health is more important than beauty. The opposite side holds the point of view that Beauty is more important than health. The task is assigned to Ss before so

16、 that they can make some preparations.Ss are asked to collect points of views and supporting facts. If necessary, the teacher can give them advice or a demonstration on how to carry out a debate.(The debate can not only develop Ss thoughts and speaking ability,also can deepen Ss correctunderstanding

17、 of beauty and health.)Step5 DiscussionAsk Ss to work in pairs to discuss“ What can we keep healthy?” Encourage Ss to share the opinions and report theirs to the class.Step 5 Homework1.Write an article to show Ss understanding of the relationship between beauty and health.2. 19、nFirst let me talk about theteaching materialThe selected teaching material is from the Reading section of Module1 unit of Advance with English. This unit introduces and develops the theme of looking good and feeling good. Ss are provided with a chance to debate which is more important, beauty or he

20、alth. The reading material is made up of three r-emails written by two good friends who exchange their opinions about appearance and health after one of them has almost died while trying to lose weight in an unsafe way. Students are expected to not only identify and grasp the main topics of the e-ma

21、ils but learn to understand sentences with however and but.As we all know, reading belongs to the input during the process of the language learning, the input has great effect on output, such as speaking and writing. Therefore, this lesson plays an important role in this unit.According to the new st

22、andard curriculum and syllabus, after studying the teaching material, I think the teaching aims are the following.(根据新课标和教学法 )1 Students are able to grasp the main point of the three e-mails.2 Students are able to know that nothing is more important than health. 3 Students are able to express their
