2015高考英语阅读理解一轮限时训练题(2)【广东深圳市第二次调研考试】were so well educated but were useless students who have lost the ability to do anything practical. the only thing weve mastered is consumption.large numbers of students have entered higher education in the past 10 years, but despite being the most educated generation in history, it seems that weve grown increasingly ignorant when it comes to basic life skills. looking back on my first couple of weeks of living in student halls, i consider myself lucky to still be alive. unfamiliar to freshers, there are many hidden dangers in the dirty corners of students accommodation.i have survived a couple of serious boiling egg incidents and lots of cases of food poisoning, probably from dirty kitchen counters. although some of my clothes have fallen victim to ironing experimentation, i think i have now finally acquired all the domestic (居家的) skills i missed out in my modem education.in 2006 and 2010, the charming educationist sir ken robinson gave two very amusing talks in which he discussed the importance of creativity in education. robinsons main viewpoint is that our current education system dislocates people from their natural talents. i would like to go a step further and propose that besides our talents, the system takes away what used to be passed from generation to generation a working knowledge of basic life skills.todays graduates may have earned themselves honor in history, law or economies, but when it comes to simple things like putting up a shelf to hold all their academic books, or fixing a hole in their on trend clothes, they have to call for help from a professional handyman or tailor.since the invention of the internet, it has never been easier for people to access information, but our highly specialized education has made us more one sided than ever.i suggest that we start with the immediate reintroduction of some of the most vital aspects of “domestic science” education, before the current lack leads to serious accidents in student halls.36people call us useless students for the reason that .awhat weve learned is beyond consumptionbwe are educated generationcweve entered higher educationdour you took my bag, i dont know what you thought you were going to get. with my wages, theres not much left on a tuesday. i hope the 5 was useful to you . i have informed the social security office so you wont be able to cash the child benefit next week. i hope that wont leave you too short. but if you really need a couple of pounds, i suppose you could always cash one of the two checks left in my check book. of course, i phoned the bank right away and the check-casing card is no longer valid, so it wont be much use to you. actually i dont mind about the money too much. we single parents who work to support our families understand only too well what it means to be short of cash. however, i dont suppose it went very far among the three of you. sorry about that!i wish you had left the bag behind and just taken the wallet and check book. there were all kinds of papers in it, and notes and things that i really need. i really think that was very inconsiderate of you. i mean, how would you like something like that to happen to you?well, perhaps the bag will turn up. it wasnt even an expensive one, just a plain, old brown leather shoulder bag. you probably dumped it in the nearest rubbish bin or threw it into the bushes. weve looked around, of course, but no one saw which way you went after you left the shop.im not really angry with you. i know how the pressures of modern living can affect us, but i am sad at the loss of my personal things. i feel violated and helpless. the police were very icy, and they just shrugged their shoulders. “it happens all the time,” they told me. some small comfort, i suppose. but ive lost just a little more faith in human natureand as my young son said when i told him what had happened, “why? mummy, why us?” i couldnt answer that question. i wonder if you can.1. in writing paragraph 2, the writer wants to .a. describe the contents of the bag in detail.b. give some suggestions to the three thievesc. state the fact that she was brother, she says, hes showered twice this afternoon. does he know how much it costs to run this house? are we limiting water now? i didnt think the recession(萧条) had got that bad. my poor brother is a boomerang kid. like 60 percent of guys immediately after university, hes back at home. graduating 15,000 in debt and faced with unpaid internships(实习期) or low wages thanks to the flooding of the market with graduates, a lot of twentysomethings simply dont have the necessary income or parental support to live independently. three years after getting their degree, most graduates are still not earning above the average salary. they have a near 50 percent tax burden, thanks to student loan repayments and council tax on top of income tax and national insurance. unless you have parents who can afford to finance what is effectively a second home for them, returning to the parental nest is often the only affordable option. the boomerang effect is becoming even more pronounced thanks to the recession. one in four of those losing their job during the downturn is under 25. only 13 percent of final-year students have jobs. home is the only place many are going: 111,000 16-29 year olds moved back home in 2008, five times the average of previous years. boomeranging is bad news. it poses serious problems for parents finances. theyve already supported their children through university, topping up loans with handouts, averaging 12,300 in total, to keep twentysomethings afloat. now their retirement savings are being eaten away by continuously dependent children. its bad for the returning kids too. ambitious young people will be left frustrated, seeing their university peers from more wealthy backgrounds excel only because parents money was there to support them through the initial period of poverty wages. those living in rural areas are further disadvantaged by lack of access to cities where most new jobs are located. half of all young people now feel they will not achieve their goals. research by the princes trust reveals that one-quarter of all 16-25 year olds are regularly down or depressed. and depression does not help self-motivation, the very trait needed to seek out job opportunities. 31. in paragraph 1, the mothers criticizing her son for showering too often shows _. a. the price of water has increased b. she thinks her son is selfish c. her son is i speak to a chinese student they always say, “my spoken english is poor.” however, their spoken english does not have to remain “poor”! i would like to suggest that there may be some reasons for their problems with spoken english.first, they fail to find suitable words to express themselves due to a limited vocabulary. obviously the better answer is to expand their vocabulary. however, you can speak with a limited vocabulary, if your attitude is positive .others will follow you as long as you use the words that you know.second, they are afraid of making mistakes. sometimes they make mistakes when they are speaking because they are shy and nervous .yet students should remember that their goal should be fluency not accuracy. your aim in writing is to be accurate following the rules for grammar and using the right words and spelling them correctly .however, in speaking your aim is fluency. you want to get your message across ,to talk to someone in english ,as quickly and as well as you can ,even though sometimes you may use a wrong word or tense ,but it doesnt matter because the person you are spe
