Unit one AdvertisingWelcome to the UnitTeaching Aims:u To make students aware of the role of advertising in our daily lifeu To talk about the four ads and put them in two groups. Finally encourage them to tell the difference between them u To discuss the questions to improve their speaking ability Teaching Key & Teaching Difficulties:u To help students understand the role of adsu To express themselves freely Teaching Procedure: Step One: Leading-inT: (Greeting the class as usual) Now we will talk about advertising. Then play two advertisements to arise students interest. After that, ask students two questions.1) Do you like reading or watching advertisements?2) Where can you find advertisements?( give the students enough time to discuss the questions in pairs or groups. Any related answers are acceptable. This step is just to arouse their interest in the topic.) Ss: (Encourage them to express themselves) Step Two: Free talk about the posters T: Thats good! So in fact we are living in a world of ads and whether you like or not, they are influencing our life. Ok, now please open your book to page 1. Here are four pictures. You may have seen some similar to them. Next please discuss them in groups of four and try to answer the following questions: 8 Poster 1Questions:1. What does the ad try to sell, a product or a service?2. Would you like to fly with Oxlin Airlines? Why or why not?8 Poster 2Questions:1. What does this ad try to make people aware of ?2. From this ad, what do you think Earth Day is all about ?8 Poster 3Questions:1. After reading this ad, do you think drugs are harmful ?2. If someone takes drugs, what would happen to him / her ?8 Poster 4Questions:1. What kind of people may buy this shampoo ? Why?2. After reading this ad, will you buy this kind of shampoo? Why? Remember to give them enough time to think about the above questions)Step Three: Table fillingT: Well done! Now you can see that advertisements are a good way to sell products or services. They are also a good way to make people aware of the needs of others and the dangers around them. Next please look at the table below and then go through the four pictures again. And in the reading we will have a further discussion.Step Four: Discussion T: Have you ever bought a product or service after reading or watching an ad?Do you believe that advertisements tell the complete truth? Now, lets have a discussion about it. Step Five: Show time T: Ask students if they have finished the homework assigned the day before yesterday. That is: each group design a poster and show their ideas about it. After that, ask students which their favorite poster is.Step Six: Homework1. Ask students to read the passage in Part B on page 95 in workbook as their homework. Teachers check
