The Proceedings of International Conference on Chemical and Biological Utilization of Biomass Resources 2010 (ICCUB 2010) Nanjing, China, 22 -26 October Organized by Chinese Society of Forestry Institute of Chemical Industry of Forest Products, CAF Nanjing Forestry University PREFACE With fossil resource being exhausted and environmental problems concerned by people, the research and development on utilization of biomass resource has been paid more attention to by many scholars all over the world. Therefore, International Conference on Chemical and Biological Utilization of Biomass Resources 2010 (ICCUB) will be held from Oct 22 to Oct 26, 2010, in Nanjing, China. It is hosted by Chinese Society of Forestry and undertaken by Institute of Chemical Industry of Forest Products (ICIFP), Chinese Academy of Forestry (CAF) and Nanjing Forestry University (NFU). One of its objectives is to explore R&D progress of the related fields, e.g., bio-energy, bio-materials, bio-chemicals, tree extracts and secretions, etc. The second objective is to explore the ways to exploit green energy and develop cyclic economy. Till the publication of this proceedings, we have received 140 paper abstracts and 125 full-text papers. Among them, 37 papers is on bio-energy development that mainly includes technology of biomass alcohol, treatment of biomass materials, technology of bio-diesel, biomass gasification for power generation, solid briquette fuel and preparation of bio-oil. 62 papers is on bio-materials and bio-chemicals that mainly include activated carbon and new carbon materials, biodegradable polymer and plastics, lingo-cellulosic materials, utilization of lignin and high additional valuable chemicals of bio-resources, etc. 26 papers is about tree extracts and secretions that mainly include rosin and turpentine, terpenes, modern extraction technology, nature fine oil and pigment, plant poly-phenol etc. Meanwhile, the Conference Committee specially invites more than 20 famous international experts and scholars. They are from USA, Japan, Korea, Greece, New Zealand, France, Egypt, Finland, Latvia, etc. The domestic scholars come from Southeast University, Beijing Forestry University, Northeast Forestry University, Guangxi University, Chinese Academy of Forestry, Nanjing Forestry University, etc. They will present their recent R&D progress during the conference. We are hoping that the international communication and cooperation no matter at academic level or industrial lever will be prompted through this event. In order to embody the experts and scholars R&D progress on the chemical and biological utilization of biomass, and prompt the scientific improvement and development on biomass chemical utilization, we compile and publish a proceedings which includes all the abstracts submitted to the conference committee, as well as a CD which consists of the full-text papers commented by the domestic scientific committee. We also wish that they may have some helpful information for your future professional works.
