A bounty hunters main job is to catch fugitives for an amount of money as a reward. A fugitive is a person who is running away to avoid punishment. Theyve gone missing and are probably on their way to the Mexican or Canadian border. The bounty hunter must find the fugitive and bring them back. The bounty hunter has to work quickly. They will check up on the fugitives friends, family and workmates to try to find a lead. They may also get in touch with underground criminal(罪犯的) movements to see if anyone can tell them something about the fugitive. Sometimes they get lucky, other times they have to be patient.Making the arrest(逮捕) is the hardest part of the job. In some cases, the fugitive has no intention of returning to the legal system. They may face a life in prison and will do anything to avoid that. The bounty hunter has to prepare the ground carefully so the arrest can be made as smoothly as possible. One of the most famous bounty hunters from the 19th century was John Riley Duncan (1850-1911). The project is started by an environmental protection organization, which has been devoted to improving the living environment for wild animals. Recently, the organization has issued an appeal(呼吁)to help it observe environmental changes based on the record of butterflies and protect the environment. In the area, the local people have planted many special flowers with the help of the organization. They want to see whether these flowers will interest the rare and beautiful butterflies. The project officer Sarah Marshall says, “It will be a suitable habitat for butterflies. They are great indicator species as they are easily affected by climate changes. So they make a brilliant early-warning system for the environment.” She also points out that volunteers are needed to record the number or species of butterflies, and based on the change happening to the butterflies, the hidden environmental problems in the area can be found out in time. The organization is searching for volunteers to help monitor (监测) butterflies from April through to September. They will walk a fixed route and record the different butterflies they meet along the way. Each visit should take no more than two hours, and each volunteer is expected to visit once a month to count the wildlife. “Staff will provide backup (后备人员), so if the weather is poor on the day you are to visit (butterflies dont like to fly in the rain, wind or if its too cloudy) we can have someone else do your job,” Sarah points out.No previous experience is necessary as training and support will be provided, but a strong interest is essential. If you are interested, please contact Sarah on (01380) 725670, ext 278, or email .25. Why are special flowers planted in the nature protection area? A. To attract visitors.B. But there is another factor that can cause your heart problems more immediately: the air you breathe.Previous studies have linked high exposure (暴露)to environmental pollution to an increased risk of heart problem, but two analyses now show that poor air quality can lead to heart attack or stroke (中风)within as little as a few hours after exposure. In one review of the research, scientists found that people exposed to high levels of pollutants (污染物)were up to 5% more likely to suffer a heart attack within days of exposure than those with lower exposure. A separate study of stroke patients showed that even air that the U. S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) considers to be of “moderate” (良好)quality and relatively safe for our health can raise the risk of stroke as much as 34% within 12 to 14 hours of exposure. The authors of both studies stress that these risks are relatively small for healthy people and certainly modest compared with other risk factors such as smoking and high blood pressure. However, it is important to be aware of these dangers because everyone is exposed to air pollution regardless of lifestyle choices. So stricter regulation by the EPA of pollutants may not only improve environmental air quality but could also become necessary to protect public health.29. The text mainly discusses the relationship between .A. heart problems and air qualityB. heart problems and exercisingC. heart problems and smokingD. heart problems and fatty food30. Stricter regulations on pollutants should be made.32. The authors purpose of writing the text is most likely to . But in 1985, Harrison traveled to Kenya, in Africa. There he saw wild animals as he had never seen them before. “Im sitting there, and this herd of giraffes comes running along, as beautiful as youve ever seen,” he says. At that moment, he decided that wild animals should not live in a persons home. When Harrison returned home, he made the decision to part with his pets. After a life in captivity(圈养), they would not have known how to live alone in the wild. So he moved them to sanctuaries-places where they would be protected and allowed to live freely.Thousands of wild animals are kept in backyards all around the country. These privately owned wild animals are known as exotic pets. “There are at least 5000 tigers in private hands in the USA,” says Adam Roberts, the CEO of Born Free USA. The number of privately owned monkeys and chimpanzees is much higher, he says: 15000 or more. The laws on keeping exotic pets are not always the same in different parts of America. Scott Shoemaker lives in Nevada. He keeps a large group of animals, including tigers, bobcats, lions and a lemur.
