新编大学英语文化层次的设置与文化学习研究 学科专业：英语语言文学 指导教师：吴欣教授 研究方向：应用语言学 研究生：张晔( 2 0 0 0 1 8 2 ) 内容摘要 自中国实行改革开放以来，中国的英语教育界经历了从被动接受外国的理论和 实践，到结合中国国情，对理论和实践进行全面反思的阶段，这是一种质的转变， 标志着中国处鲻x - l t k y 日趋成熟的发展道路。尤其是目前，随着中国加入世贸 组织和申奥成功，人们再次掀起学习英语的高潮。就外语教学界而言，文化教学已 经成为英语教学不可或缺的一部分，因为从很大程度而言，交流建立在文化意识之 上。随之而来的是教学方法的变迁。为了赶上社会经济发展的步伐，1 9 9 9 年出台了 一项新大纲( 大学英语教学大纲( 修订本) ) ，进一步强调文化学习在大学英 语教学中的重要性。由应惠兰等主编，浙江大学出版社出版的新编大学英语采 用以“学生者为中心”的原则，同样也重视文化因素在教材中的安排。新编大学 英语出版后由许多大学采用作为大学非英语专业的教材。它在指导学生了解目的 语文化，培养学生的文化意识，促进学生的文化学习，以及帮助他们以后更加有效 地参加含有外来语文化的社会生活起着越来越重要的作用。因此，从文化层次对新 编大学英语里的文章进行分析有着定的重要性。 论文首先叙述了这一研究的背景知识，阐述了文化、语言及思想的关系。在诸 多的学习模式中，作者较为推崇高一虹的“1 + 1 ) 2 ”的学习模式。论文还对教学大 纲所包含的几个步骤进行了逐一的论述。包括分析学生需求，编写或修订教材，以 及实施教学活动。论文着重论述了教材的重要性，教材的内容以及采用教材的标准。 以学习者为中心的教学大纲也在论文中得以阐述，因这一大纲一改过去以教师为中 心的原则，强调应以学习者为中心，而新编大学英语正是采用了这教学大纲。 内罄：撼1 要 、 i i i p 之后，论文从文化层次对新编大学英语的文章进行分析。这三个文化层次分别 是表层的物质文化，中间层的人际文化和深层的心理文化。作者采用表格的形式对 这一问题进行相应地阐述。论文进一步回顾了国内外外语界文化学习的状况。尽管 不同的国家在不同的阶段给予文化学习不同程度的重视，但是将其付诸实践的结果 却不令人满意。在中国，这一情况尤甚。所幸的是目前外语教学界对文化学习越来 越重视。此外，文化研究的四个方面以及文化教学的方法分别得以叙述。作者还对 这一设置，文化学习以及外语学习的关系以图的形式进行了表述。 批评性的教学大纲重视大众文化的学习。大众文化涉及的问题是构成学生的主 体性和其经验的基础。就这点而言，一种特殊的教与学的形式就是将大众文化作为 其内容的基础部分。新编大学英语采用的文章基于日常生活，注重大众文化的 传授，值得借鉴。但是文章难度略大，且有关深层心理文化韵文章所占比例较多， 可能会影响学生的理解。作者继而提出一些建议。目前越来越多的老师将杂志和报 刊的内容作为教材，尽管报刊和杂志的文章有许多新闻方面的术语，但是这些文章 更贴近生活，而且可以借此培养学生利用上下文，借用结构、词汇的线索猜测单词 的能力。 此外，教育的目标之一是提高学生的品位，培养学生的文化意识，提高学生的 文化素养。因此作者建议将文学名著，包括中国文学名著的章节作为教材内容。在 选择教材内容时需要遵循三项原则：实用性原则，阶段性原则和适合性原则。当然 在选择教材内容时，还有一点需特别引起注意，内容难度不能太大，应与学生水平 相当，与学生的生活经历与情感相近。 论文共分五章： 第一章，简要介绍论文的目的和重要性，并勾勒出全文的框架。 第二章，提出论文研究的背景，叙述了语言，文化及思想的关系，并对文化进 行定义，进一步将语言同文化学习以及认知发展联系在一起。论文提及“外语学习” 模式。作者较为推崇高一虹的“生产性外语学习”模式，并对其进行详细论述。 第三章，首先对课程的一些成分，诸如需求分析，教材的作用及其内容进行叙 述，之后谈及“以学习者为中心”的教学大纲，并着重叙述了重视大众文化学习的 批评性教学大纲，在此基础上对新编大学英语的文章从文化层次，即表层的物 质文化，中间层的人际文化和深层的心理文化分析，还制表格辅以阐述。 第四章，论及文化研究同外语学习的关系。逐一阐述文化研究的一些方面，例 如文化研究的四个方面：文化研究在语言教学中的重要性，及其对学习者的影响； 制定合适的文化教学的方法；语言及文化教学课程同整个课程的关系；对文化研究
