摘要 奈保尔是一位在西方文学界享有盛誉的当代英国移民作家。他是一个有着异 常丰富的人生体验和文化来源，对于历史、社会和自然有着超乎寻常的观察与探 究的思想者，和一名不因循任何传统的作家。本论文主要以奈保尔的代表作抵 达之谜为研究对象，这部自传性质的小说使他获得2 0 0 1 年度诺贝尔文学奖。 抵达之谜完成于1 9 8 7 年，此时奈保尔在英国已经居住了三十多年，并 己出版过不少有影响的作品，但只有抵达之谜才算得上是他第一部全面反映 自己人生与创作思想的作品。小说通篇以第一人称娓娓述说着奈保尔的发现以及 他不断变化的人生观。小说中奈保尔回溯自己抵达英国求学写作的全过程，对自 己在地理空间、文化场域上抵达英国的内在原因进行分析，并最终发现，英国这 个他一直视为陌生之地的国度才是他人生的抵达之地、写作的抵达之地，精神 文化的栖息之地，它给了他走向人生之路与作家之路的物质与精神基础。在本论 文中，笔者运用后殖民文化身份理论来进行分析梳理，把这种抵达归纳为奈保尔 获得了一种新的杂交文化身份，而小说中的“抵达之谜”也即是奈保尔如何获得 这种文化身份之谜。本论文将从以下几部分来分析作家获得这种文化身份，即抵 达这一主题的。 本论文共分五部分。第一部分概要介绍奈保尔和其作品以及国内国外对他研 究的现状。 第二部分在介绍后殖民身份理论的基础上探讨奈保尔寻求抵达的原因，分别 从奈保尔本人特殊的社会文化背景，家庭环境和他本人的心理需求展开分析。 第三部分用新批评理论分别从整部小说结构，基里科画作抵达之谜的角 度，和奈保尔所使用的意象杰克和他的花园来阐述抵达的含义。杰克和 他的花园在一定程度上体现了人类理想的生存状态。 第四部分重点分析奈保尔作为一个作家和作为一个“个人 的抵达之感，而
