Two weeks after I got my licence, we had exams at school and on the Monday I decided not to drive because I was tired from studying. We had the same driver. All the kids got on well with each other. That afternoon I was sitting by the window next to a 13-year-old girl who was telling me about her day, when there was a loud dull sound. I looked up to see the younger children standing and looking down towards the front of the bus. Our driver wasnt at the wheel. It was around 3 pm, so there was a lot of traffic and we were at a busy intersection. The girl I was sitting with jumped up and said, “You just got your licence-you have to go for a drive.” I replied, “What? My driving licence isnt to drive a bus!” But she said, “Youve got to go.”Wed been stationary at a red light but the bus started to move slowly, at about 5 mph, on its own. Everything went into slow motion. I headed to the front and yelled for someone to call the police. The driver had fallen from his seat and his feet had e off the pedals. He was on the ground, shaking. His whole body was blocking the front of the bus. I couldnt reach the brakes or sit down. I instantly went into problem-solving way. Then I saw a car ing towards us-we were in the middle of the intersection and had started drifting into the opposite lane. I leaned over the driver and grabbed the wheel, then I steered us through the intersection to the side of the road. I pulled the massive emergency brake, hoping it would stop the bus, and it did. Our headteacher and an ambulance arrived within five minutes. The driver had had a heart attack; he was sent to hospital immediately.21. Why didnt the author drive her car to school that day?A. She was brave and quick-minded in face of danger. B. She hesitated to give a hand to other people.C. She had no courage to risk her life. D. She relied on others to solve problems.B I find it humorous sometimes that even the most mon happenings can have a powerful influence on our awareness. My family moved into our home nine years ago and we spent a lot of time and energy in the yard to get it looking like it does today. The entire side of the yard is surrounded by a carefully built rock wall. The front of the house, though, is another story. The rocks seem to be just thrown up onto the dirt, as if someone were in a hurry to finish it. We did the best to live with it and called this area our “rock garden”. Whenever we had leftover flowers or plants, my wife or I would throw them out front, just to bring some color to the area. Last summer I had reached the end of the rock garden and found a tiny little plant that I could not immediately identify. I knew I didnt plant it and Denise claimed that she didnt either. We decided to let it continue growing until we could figure out what it was. Weeks passed and as I made my way back to the mystery plant, it appeared to be a sunflower. It was long and thin with a tall skinny stalk and only one head on it. I decided to baby it along and weed around it. As I pulled rocks from the area to get to the weeds, I noticed something unusual. The sunflower had not started where I saw the stalk begin. It actually had begun under a big rock and grown under and around it to reach the sun. Thats when I realized that if a tiny little sunflower didnt let a big rock stand in its way of developing, we too can do the same thing. We need to believe in ourselves like the sunflower and have faith that we have the ability to overe difficulty. Stand tall like the sunflower and be proud of who and what you are and the environment will begin to support you. You will find a way to go under or around your big obstacle in order to reach your desires.24. What does the underlined word “identify” mean in Paragraph2?A. recognize B. remove C. admit D. solve25. Why didnt the writer get rid of the sunflower?A. Because he was fond of sunflowers. B. Because he wanted to know what the plant was.C. Because he was moved by the spirit of the sunflower. D. Because he wanted to decorate the garden.26. Which of the following can be the best title for the text?A. The Rock Garden. B. A Mystery Plant. C. The Importance of Self-confidence. D. Stand Tall Like the Sunflower.C Almost everybody once felt loneliness. Loneliness doesnt depend on how many people you are surrounded, but actually is decided by how much socially connected you are. Social media such as WeChat, QQ and Microblog is growing rapidly, which seems to have expanded our network, but actually has thrown ourselves into the hole of loneliness. Now loneliness is poisoning our mental health. To jump out of the “net”, recently the concept of “cohousing” is introduced by some western architects(建筑师)and the new living style is well-received in the US among seniors. So whats cohousing? Most cohousing munities are 15 to 35 private and individual houses built around a public area where social interaction takes place. Those individual houses are actually the same with mon houses with living rooms, bathrooms, kitchens and bedrooms. In the public area, there are a variety of public facilities like big kitchens. Residents can regularly plan activities and meals together. Some neighborhoods have dinner every day with work clearly given to each person. The closer ties in the cohousing munities tend to increase peoples sense of security. In addition, cohousing units prove to be economical. Although the house itself might be a little higher, the total costs can be lower after considering energy savings through shared meals, transportation and others. The attitude towards “cohousing” is mixed. Intentional people-to-people interaction is greatly valued the accepted by supporters. They treat the lifestyle as the lifeline out of the hole of loneliness. However, opponents hold that privacy outweighs intentional social interaction. They find no need to change their current living style and want to stay unchanged as long as possible. Such opinion is challenged by some people. They argue when those people get older with sudden death of their ine or even mate, they will realize the value of cohousing munities. They are suggested to plan ahead. Whats your idea? Will you choose to live in cohousing munities?27. The author uses “social media” in the first paragraph to _.A. show the problem of using them B. persuade readers to value munication C. remind readers of their ways of munication D. prove the importance of them 28. What can we learn from the cohousing munities?A. The munities are built in an area which contains 15-35 public houses.B. Residents plan activities and meals together in their individual houses.C. The houses in the munities are similar to mon houses with necessary facilities.D. The munities will cost people more money because the price of the house is higher.29. Whats the authors attitude towards “cohousing”?A. Uninterested. B. Doubtful. C. Worried. D. Objective.30. What would be the best title for the text?A. What is a “cohousing munity”? B. Would you choose “cohousing”?C. How do you purchase “cohousing”? D. Why does “cohousing” appear?第二节(共5小题;每小题1分,满分5分)根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。Water-To Your Health!
