4、w the usage of the appositive clause and use it correctly. 1. Explain the usage of the appositive clause by giving examples. (1) 同位语从句的引导词引导同位语从句的连词有that,whether (不能用if) 或连接副词how,when,where等,这些连词一般不能省略。例如:The fact that you havent enough time to do the work is simply unbelievable.你没有足够的时间去做这件工作,这简直令人
5、难以置信。That question whether we need it has not been considered. 我们是否需要它这个问题还没有考虑。I have no idea when he will be back. 我不知道他什么时候回来。(2) 分隔形式的同位语从句 同位语从句有时可以不紧跟在它所说明的名词后面,而是被别的词或短语等隔开,我们称之为分隔形式的同位语从句。例如:He got the news from Mary that the sports meeting was put off. 他从玛丽那里知道了运动会被推迟的消息。Word came that he h

(同位语从句)我不知道他发生了什么事 同位语从句中的that是连词,只起连接主句与从句的作用,不充当句中任何成分,且不可省略;定语从句中的that既代替先行词,同时在从句中作主语或宾语,作宾语时常省略。试比较:We were greatly pleased at the news that the Chinese womens volleyball team had won the match. (同位语从句,that在句中不作任何成分。)听到中国女排获胜的消息我们极为高兴。The news (that) he told me is that Tom would
9、 go abroad next year. (定语从句,that在从句中作told的宾语,that可省略。)他告诉我的消息是汤姆明年将出国。The order that we should send a few people to help the other groups was received yesterday. (同位语从句,是对order的具体解释,that虽不作成分,但不能省略)我们应派几个人去帮别的几个小组的命令昨天收到了。The order that we received yesterday was that we should send a few people to h

(定语从句,是名词order的修饰语,that在从句中作received的宾语,可以省略)我们昨天收到的命令是我们应该派几个人去帮助别的几个小组。(2) 从词类上区别 同位语从句所说明的名词常是抽象名词,如idea, fact, news, hope, belief, suggestion, proposal, word, thought, doubt, truth, possibility, promise, order。定语从句的先行词可以是名词、代词甚至整个句子。I have no idea when he will set out.(同位语从
11、句)我不知道他什么时候出发。October 1, 1949 was the day when the Peoples Republic of China was founded. (定语从句)1949年10月1日是中华人民共和国成立的日子。The possibility that the majority of the labour force will work at home is often discussed. (同位语从句)人们经常讨论大多数劳动力将会在家里工作的可能性Our team has won the game, which made us very happy. (定语从句
12、)我们的队赢了,这让我们很高兴。(3) 从性质上区别同位语从句是名词性的,其功能是对前面的抽象名词进行补充说明,而且可以用此抽象名词作主语,把同位语从句改为表语从句;定语从句是形容词性的,其功能是对其先行词的修饰或限制,不宜改为此类表语从句。例如: Then the question arose where we were to get the machine needed.(同位语从句) The question was where we were to get the machine needed. 然后就产生这样一个问题,我们上哪儿去找所需要的机器。Could you tell me t
13、he reason why she refused to go abroad? (定语从句)你能否告诉我她为什么不愿意出国?此句不可改为:The reason is why she refused to go abroad. Step 3. ConsolidationPurpose: To check if Ss have mastered the appositive clause. 1. Ask Ss to do Ex2 in discovering useful structures on P37. 2. Ask Ss to finish Ex1 using structures on
14、P71. 3. Group work Get Ss to work in groups of four and play the game “Appositive Clause or Attributive Clause?” Show the following sentences one by one. Ss should put up their hands as quickly as possible if they know the answer. The group that gets the highest score will win the game.(1) The news
