Her novels show a wealth of humor, wit and delicate satire ,as can be seen from her characterization of Mr. Bonnet in Pride and Prejudice. The theme of her novel

When Austen was twenty, Tom Lefroy, a nephew of neighbors, visited Steventon. He had just finished a university de

7、gree and was moving to London to train as a barrister. He is very gentlemanlike, good-looking and pleasant. She fell in love in Lefroy. However, her parents wanted her to marry rich Mr. Heartley, whose fortune did not tempt her. She rejected his proposal. Marriage was impractical, as both Lefroy and

8、 Austen must have known. Neither had any money, and he was dependent on a great-uncle in Ireland to finance his education and establish his legal career. If Tom Lefroy later visited Hampshire, he was carefully kept away from the Austens, and Jane Austen never saw him again. Later, she lived a quiet

9、and comfortable life and she never married all life .,Classic words,It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune must be in want of a wife. A large income is the best recipe for happiness I ever heard of. A ladys imagination is very rapid; it jumps from a

10、dmiration to love, from love to matrimony in a moment. A woman, especially, if she have the misfortune of knowing anything, should conceal it as well as she can. Happiness in marriage is entirely a matter of chance.,View of marriage,She pointed out emphatically economic consideration is the bonds of

She said marriage is not determined by property and family status; it is unwise to marry without money, but it is wrong to marry for money; the marriage settled by love is happy and ideal. Austens view of marriage was progressive, advocated by her focus on the equality between men

12、 and women. She emphasized marriage should be of equal importance both by love and by economic consideration but love plays the guiding role. She revealed the connotation of marriage.
