Theideafortheboatracebetweentheuniversitiescamefromtwofriends–CharlesMerivale,astudentatCambridge,andhisfriendCharlesWordsworthwhowasatOxford.Theydecidedtosetupaboatracebetweenthetwouniversities.OnMarch12,1829,CambridgesentachallengetoOxfordfirst.

WhenthefirstboatracetookplaceinasmalltownbyThames,eightstudentsfromeachuniversitybecamethecompetitors.Crowdsoftwentythousandtraveledtowatch.Itwassoexciting.AndtheOxfordwasclearwinners.Lateron,notonlydidthestudentsfromthetwouniversitiestakepart,butalsosomesocialgroupsattendedtheevent.By1845,withthesmalltownbecomingtoocrowded,theboatracehadmovedsixmilesuptothevillage–Putney.From1856on,theracehasbeenheldeveryyearexceptwaryears.Thisboatraceisconsideredtobe“theworld’soldestsportingchallenge”.

Fromnowon,schoolbuseshaveaspeedlimitof80kmperhouronhighways(高速)and60kmperhouronnormalroads.Whileontheroad,othercarsmustletschoolbusesgofirst.

Thenewrulesalsosaythatschoolbusesmustneverbeoverloaded(超载的).
