I'mgratefulthatI'vebeengiventhisopportunity,atsuchahistoric

moment,tostandhereasaspokesmanofmygenerationandtotakea

seriouslookbackatthepast15years,acrucialperiodforeveryoneofus

andforthisnationaswell.

Thoughitisonlywithinmypowertotellaboutmypersonal

Inmyelementaryyears,therewasalittlegirlintheCLASswho

workedveryhardbutsomehowcouldneverdosatisfactorilyinher

lessons.

Theteacheraskedmetohelpher,anditwasobviousthatshe

expectedalotfromme.butasayoungboy,restless,thoughtless,I

alwaystriedtoevadehersoastogetmoretimetoenjoymyself.

Onedaybeforethefinalexam,shecameuptomeandsaid,"Could

youpleaseexplainthistome?Iwantverymuchtodobetterthistime."

Istartedexplaining,andfinishedinahurry.Pretendingnottonoticeher

stillconfusedeyes,Iranoffquickly.Natsurprisingly,sheagaindidvery

badlyintheexam.Andtwomonthslater,atthebeginningofthenew

againdidIfeelthatregretwhichstruckmeatthedeathofthegirl,forit

makesmyheartsatisfiedtothinkthatIhavealwaysdoneeverythingin

mypowertofulfillmyresponsibilitiesasbestIcan.

AsIgrewup,changedandimprovedbythisincidentandmany

othersimilarones,Ibegantoperceivethechangestakingplacearound

meandtofindthatsociety,inaway,wasinitsformativeyearslike

myself.Newbuildings,newcommoditiesandnewfashionsappearevery

day.Newideas,newinformation,newtechnologies.Peoplecantalkwith

eachotherfromanycorneroftheearthinamatterofseconds.Societyis

becomingmorecompetitive.

Wordslikeindividualityandcreativityaregettingmoreemphasis

andmorepeoplearerewardedfortheirhardworkandefforts.Suchis

theerainwhichthisgeneration,growsandmatures.

Suchistheerainwhichthisgenerationwilltakeoverthenation

fromourfathersandlearntorunit.Yetinthemeantime,manyproblems

stillexist.

Welearnthatcrimestakeplaceinbroaddaylightwithcrowdsof

peoplelookingonandnotassisting.Wehearthattherearestillabout1

millionchildreninthiscountrywhocan'tevenaffordtogotoelementary

schoolswhileenormoussumsofmoneyarebeingsquanderedawayon

dinnerpartiesandluxurycars.

Webuyshoddymedicines,ormerelyworthlessjunkinthenameof

medicines,thataggravate,ratherthanalleviateourdiseasessincemoney,

manypeoplebelieve,isthemostimportantthingintheworldthatmust

bemade,evenattheexpenseofmoralityandresponsibility.

Suchanera,therefore,determinesthatweareagenerationwitha

keenersenseofcompetitionandefficiencyandagreaterreadinessto

ordinarystudent.ProbablyI'llbeanordinarymanfortherestofmylife.
