OverhalfofEMEAandAPACrespondentsareconcernedaboutnon-compliancewithregulations,comparedwitharoundtwo-fifthsofNorthAmericarespondents.Perhapsthisisduetothemyriadoflocallawsandregulationsemployersmustbemindfulofand

Whilespeedisanessentialcomponentofanybackgroundscreeningprogram—andprotractedrecruitmentandonboardingprocessescouldresultincandidatestakingpositionselsewhere—perhapsmoreemployersarenowrealizingthatitisnotworthcuttingcornerswhileconductingbackgroundchecksjusttogetfasterresults.

OutsideofNorthAmerica,costrankedfourthinEMEAandAPAC,droppingfromitspositionasatopthreeconsiderationforemployersineachregioninour2022and2023

surveys.Whileforsomebusinessesrecruitmentandonboardingbudgetsarebeingsqueezed,itisreassuringtoseethatmanyorganizationsseemtobelievethatthebenefitsofhavinganaccuratebackgroundscreeningoutweightheassociatedmonetarycosts.Toeffectivelymitigateemploymentrisk,youneedtoinvestintherightcombinationofscreeningservicesandchoosetherightpartner.

TherehasalsobeenanincreaseintheuseofeducationverificationchecksinEMEA,upfrom71%in2023to82%thisyear.EmploymentverificationchecksremainpopularinEMEA,withlittlechangefromlastyear’ssurveyfindings.

InNorthAmerica,SexOffenderRegistrycheckshaveseenasurgeinpopularitythisyear,upby12percentagepointsonlastyear’sfigure.Theothertopfivechecksintheregionhaveseensimilaradoptionratesasthepasttwoyears.

InAPAC,criminalrecordcheckshaveseenanincreaseoverthepasttwoyears,from65%ofrespondentsincludingthemin2022to81%thisyear.Additionally,theusageofprofessionallicences/qualificationverificationshasrisenfromjustoverathird(36%)in2023tooverhalf(52%)thisyear.
