Portablebatteriesinproductsneedtobereplaceableandremovablebytheend-usersatanytimeduringthelifetimeoftheproduct

Asaderogationfromthatrule,someproductsincorporatingportablebatteriesmaybedesignedinsuchawayastomakethebatteryremovable/replaceableonlybyindependentprofessionals:

•(a)appliancesspecificallydesignedtooperateprimarilyinanenvironmentthatisregularlysubjecttosplashingwater,waterstreamsorwaterimmersion,andthatareintendedtobewashableorrinseable;

•(b)professionalmedicalimagingandradiotherapydevicesandinvitrodiagnosticmedicaldevices

TheCommissionisempoweredtoaddfurtherderogationstothatlistthroughdelegatedacts

BatteriespoweringLightMeansofTransportneedtobereadilyremovableandreplaceablebyanindependentprofessionalatanytimeduringthelifetimeoftheproduct(alsoatcelllevel)

TheCommissionwillbepublishingguidanceontheapplicationofArticle9during2024,basedontheJRCreportonreplaceabilityofbatteries
