manyindigenouspeoplediedofillnessormovedofftheirland.Nowthereareonly

about500Aboriginalpeoplelivingthere.However,theirancestorsrecordedthe

longhistorythroughrockartinKakadu.KakaduNationalParkhasoneoftheworld’slargestcollectionsofAboriginal

rockart.Mostpaintingscanbefoundincaves.TheyshowobjectstheAborigines

used,animalstheyhuntedandactivitiestheydid.Thefirstrockartisthoughtto

bethedirectprintofhands,andplantssuchasgrass,ontotherock.Later,

around15,000yearsbeforepresent,humanswereshownontherock,telling
