December12,2023.Indescribingthesafetydefect,Tesla’sDefectInformationReport(DIR)

explainedthat“theprominenceandscopeofthesystem’scontrolsmaybeinsufficienttoprevent

drivermisuse,”andTeslacommittedtothedeploymentofamultipartremedyaimedat

improvingsystemcontrolsandengagementcontrolsandreducingmodeconfusion.Tesla’sfive-partremedyinvolvedchangestothesystemorintroductionofnewfeatures.

1.Item1:Modeconfusion

Remedy:Addasingle-pullactivationoptionfortheactivationofAutopilot.Enablementofthisoptionalfunctioncausesinadvertentsteeringoverridestodisengageboth

AutosteerandTACCleadingtoamorepronouncedslowdowntoalertthedriverthat

Autosteerhasbeencanceledandtheymustresumeimmediatecontrolofthevehicle.Thisfunctionisnotdefaultonvehicleswhoreceivedtheremedyinthefieldandcanreadilybeenabledanddisabledbyconsumers.

Notably,Item1oftherecall(singlepullactivationofAutopilot)isnotthedefaultsettingon

vehiclesthatreceivedtheremedyinthefield.Forthosevehicles,theconsumermustnavigatetoamenuandenablethefeature.Additionally,thefeaturecanreadilybeenabledanddisabledbythedriver.VRTCtestingalsoshoweditwaspossibletomakethischangewhiledriving.

Non-RemedyUpdates:

Teslahasreleasednon-remedyupdatesrelatedtoconditionsinvestigatedinEA22002andidentifiedbyNHTSAtoTeslapriorto23V838.Theknownreleasednon-remedyupdatesinclude:
