themfromnestswithoutpunishment.Theserecords,largelyconsistingofboxesofeggswith
hand-writtenlabelsdescribingthetypeofbirdandwhentheeggswerecollected,werecompared
withmodemnestingdatacheckedbyresearcherswhousedmirrorsmountedonlongpolesto
observehigh-upnests.
Amodelbuiltbytheresearchersrevealedthatbirdsmovingtheirnestingdatesforwardhas
beencloselycorrelatedwithrisingcarbondioxidelevelsintheatmosphere,aleadingdriverof
risingglobaltemperatures.
Birdschoosewhentonestinlinewithotherdevelopmentsinspring,suchasthebudding(发
芽)ofplantsandtheincreaseininsectnumbers.Theseinteractionsofnaturearebeingunpicked
byclimatechange-intheUSbearsareemergingfromhibernationearlierandcherry,peach,pear,
appleandplumtreesareblossomingweeksearlierthantheyoncedid.IntheUK,plantsflowered
afullmonthearlierbetween1987and2019thantheydidbefore1986,recentresearchfound.
