greatexperiment.Ifhelearnedwhenandwheretheshoeswentintothe
waterandtrackedwheretheylanded,hecouldlearnalotaboutthe
patternsofoceancurrents.
ThePacificNorthwestisoneoftheworld'sbestareasfor

result,thereisagroupofseriousbeachcombersinthearea.Ebbesmeyer
gottoknowalotofthemandaskedfortheirhelpincollecting

totestandimproveacomputerprogramdesignedtomodelocean
currents,andpublishthefindingsoftheirstudy.

scientisttocallwithquestionsaboutanyunusualobjectsfoundfloating
