brain:thoseaffectedfeeldistresswhiletheirbrainsactasiftheywereimitatingthetriggering

mouthmovements.

"Thisisthefirstbreakthroughinmisophoniaresearchin25years,'*sayspsychologist

JenniferJ.Brout,whodirectstheInternationalMisophoniaResearchNetworkandwasnot

involvedinthenewstudy.

Theresearchteam,ledbyNewcastleUniversityneuroscientistSukhbinderKumar,analyzed

brainactivityinpeoplewithandwithoutmisophoniawhentheywereatrestandwhilethey

listenedtosounds.Theseincludedmisophoniatriggers(suchaschewing),generallyunpleasant

sounds(likeacryingbaby),andneutralsounds.Thebrain'sauditory(听觉的)cortex,which

processessound,reactedsimilarlyinsubjectswithandwithoutmisophonia.Butinboththeresting

stateandlisteningtrials,peoplewithmisophoniashowedstrongerconnectionsbetweenthe
