8.ShouldRetirementAgeBeRaised?Whethertoraisetheretirementagehasbecomeahottopicnowadays.Manypeopleseeincreasingtheretirementageasawaytohelpaddressthefinancialchallengesinthesocialsecurityfund.Andtheysaytherearecompellingdemographicreasonsforsuchachange-increasedlifespansincreasedworkingcapabilitiesandastructuraldemandforexperiencedlabor.Howevermanymorewereagainstraisingtheretirementage.Theyarguethatthepensionfundhasasurplusnow.Besidesaprolongedlifespandoesn'tnecessarilymeanthatpeopleareabletoworklonger.Moreimportantlyraisingtheretirementagewouldputmorestrainonthealreadygraveemploymentsituation.Addingworkingyearsforthosenowemployedwouldmeanfeweropeningsforthenewjobseekerswhoareyoungerandhealthier.PersonallyIthinkthegovernmentshouldraisetheretirementageonlywhenthereisseverelaborshortagerelativelyhighpensionpaymentsorthegovernmentisinafiscalcrisis.Howeverit'sapparentthatourcountrynowhasnoneofthesethreescenarios.ThereforeIdon'tthinkitnecessarytoraisetheofficialretirementageatpresent.ShouldRetirementAgeBeRaised?Whethertoraisetheretirementagehasbecomeahottopicnowadays.Manypeopleseeincreasingtheretirementageasawaytohelpaddressthefinancialchallengesinthesocialsecurityfund.And,theysay,therearecompellingdemographicreasonsforsuchachange-increasedlifespans,increasedworkingcapabilities,andastructuraldemandforexperiencedlabor.However,manymorewereagainstraisingtheretirementage.Theyarguethatthepensionfundhasasurplusnow.Besides,aprolongedlifespandoesn'tnecessarilymeanthatpeopleareabletoworklonger.Moreimportantly,raisingtheretirementagewouldputmorestrainonthealreadygraveemploymentsituation.Addingworkingyearsforthosenowemployedwouldmeanfeweropeningsforthenewjobseekerswhoareyoungerandhealthier.Personally,Ithinkthegovernmentshouldraisetheretirementageonlywhenthereisseverelaborshortage,relativelyhighpensionpaymentsorthegovernmentisinafiscalcrisis.However,it'sapparentthatourcountrynowhasnoneofthesethreescenarios.Therefore,Idon'tthinkitnecessarytoraisetheofficialretirementageatpresent.
